Still Can't See These

I broke some racks of 9-Ball today and on one occasion I had this straight in shot on the 1B as the opening shot. And I missed it as per the line in the diagram shows.

When I got down on the shot I simply couldn't tell if the cue was aligned straight at the target or not. I got up and tried the set up again but still couldn't tell if I was aiming properly and if the cue was aligned properly. Again, I missed the shot. And let's be clear here - this was straight in. So nobody tell me there appears to be a slight angle. I got the diagram as straight as I could.

UPDATE: The diagram isn't correct for some reason. And Chalkysticks doesn't seem to be working at the moment. Ignore all of this.

I can't fathom the number of times I have to post this.

THE OFFSET IS WHAT YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF

In this exaggeration you can see that the contact line will be the correct stick angle. Without the stick angle you're just guessing that everything is directly in front and in line.
Don't forget to take a confident - confident, not hard - stroke at it.

I'm old. I have my own Diamond 9'.

If I miss a shot like that, on the 9 ball, I go throw up. Then, I recreate the shot and shoot it. If I make it, I shoot it 10 more times. If I miss it, or if I miss one of the 10 tries after the first miss, I set it up and shoot it 20 times.

You don't need to go over the 20, but you do need first and foremost, perfect going down on the shot. Screw that up, and you may or may not make it. Get that right, and you're 80% of the way there.

But I'm a banger, so what the heck.

And you're aware of which is your dominant eye, correct??

Judging by the image from straightline, even with a miniscule angle, it's still center-to-center aim. If you aren't confident in your alignment, you need an instructor to teach you.

Well it's obvious that you either don't aim right or you don't hit the point of aim, and this is usually a stroke issue.

straight in shots are easy. either aim at the top of the ball or the bottom depending on sighting. If the bottom is available that is what I use. Practice the Mighty X drill. You'll get it.

My preferred solution is: 1.. Get down on the shot and aim to the center of the pocket as normal.
2. Now move your aim so the object ball will hit a little to the right of the pocket. 3. Now move your aim a little of to the left of the pocket. 4. If you feel it is needed, repeat again until you feel you have it on center. The entire process only takes a couple of seconds but you should feel when it is correct. Just give it a try.

There's a triple articulated mechanism at work.
stick to ball
ball to ball
ball to pocket
Actually if you add self, that puts another magnitude of variables in the equation.

Hence CBL. The habit of teeing off dead straight is where it starts.
