i have an instroke case, and it whenever i pull out my cues, they smell like some type of cleaner, or it could be something that cuemakers use on there cues. its been like this for sometime now. does anybody know how to get the smell out?? i was thinking baking soda or something. any ideas??
thank you,
stinky......lol

Have you emptied the case out, and let it air out for a few days? One other idea would be to place a Air Tube from a Fish Tank in the Tubes, and let a SMALL FISH TANK Pump Circulate Air in the Tubes for a Few hours to Air out the Case.

Good luck with the SMELL....

LOL, thanks poolslueth. the smell is not a bad one, its either cleaner that i may have used, or some type of finish, not sure...... ill try airing it out.
thank you,

Sounds to me like nelsonnite that the cuemakers use to stabilize the wood. Does it kind of smell like turpentine? When I first noticed it, I thought the wood smelled like it was still green. Is the shaft relatively new? Over time I found the smell dissipated.
Nelsonite reduces the possibility of warpage a great deal. The shaft is dipped in it repeatedly over the constuction period, it forces the normal moisture (which is the cause of most warpage) out.

not the best suggestion

Take it to a typical smokey stinky poolroom and leave the lid open while you play. It will no longer have the smell you are talking about but one that is actually worse than what you have now. I sure can't wait for the whole nation to go smoke free.

Coffee Grounds

You may think I'm crazy but, take one of your wifes old pantyhose and pour fresh coffee grounds in it. Tie it off and put it in the top of your case. It will absorb any moisture in the case and it will smell great. Works very well with stinky refrigerators too!!!!!:D

Count your blessings

I bought a great leather wallet in Vietnam a long time ago. Beautiful wallet, loved it, but every time I worked up a sweat I smelled like I had just peed my pants. Couldn't figure it out. One day, after overcoming a hormonal perspective on my lady friend, I asked her if she noticed the smell. She says, "Sure, it's your wallet." Then she explained that it was tanned with elephant urine and whenever it got a little moist, it also got very fragrant. As for cover-up scents, a smell is a smell, better off without one. You know that if you smell it, it is smelly. I think the baking soda will work. That is why it is used so frequently in refrigerators. That coffee grounds idea sounded plausible, as well.

It's is most likely the Nelsonnite.

All you need is a few drops of Ozium. If it is good enough to get rid of the smell of a skunk, I think it will solve your problem too.

Ahhhhh, so that's what that smell is! I have a sneaky I got from a local maker here, actually it's my son's cue now, as it is 60" and a bit 'whippy' for me...anyway, darn thing has stunk up the case since I got it! Smells like a combination of turpentine and mold! Big Yuck on the ol' olfactory senses...Lol.

The case airs out just fine on it's own, but will continue to smell as long as you continue to store the cue in it.:(
