Stop Shot Stop Watch Challenge

I'm giving you 8 pages of stop shot patterns, starting with a 3 ball layout and adding 1 ball per page to finish with 10 balls on page 9. The first page is blank to give you time to grab a watch to time yourself before seeing the first puzzle. I think that quickly recognizing stop shot patterns and where the cueball needs to be to start that pattern may help us to group balls on a table for easier runs.

Time one pattern at a time or all 8 at once. Or don't time it at all and just have fun.

On these, you have to figure out the proper cueball starting point and sequence that clears the table with zero post-contact cueball motion. Don't worry about break balls. Just clear the table. Click to the next page for the next pattern.

Note:A couple of balls didn't save perfectly in position, so they may not hit the center of the pocket but are close enough.

I hope there are people actually doing these. Even if it's just one person, I'll keep posting them. Let me know.

Answer key is in the hyperlink at bottom.

FWIW, I'm doing these. I've been pretty busy the last few days, but when I have some time undisturbed I'll try this one with a stopwatch.

Last weekend I stared at the Stop Shot Puzzle (3) for about 20 minutes and couldn't quite get it. I thought I had most of the pattern a couple of times, but it didn't link together. Not giving up; just putting it on hold for now.

I'll echo what tsw said. I'm doing these and the "run this" patterns. When I've got the free time to respond to them, I do.

I just started posting on these forums about a month or two ago, and I'm getting a LOT of great information out of this straight pool forum. A lot of that is thanks to your threads.

Good to hear. Thanks. I notice a lot of people who used to participate in the "Run This" threads, don't anymore. I hope people aren't annoyed by my constant posting here in the straight pool forum. I'm just gung ho about improving my game right now. When I get hooked on something I tend to be impatient about getting better. Then again, if I hit a plateau, I sort of crash. I guess I'm a little bipolar when it comes to sports.

I tried them but without the watch. Got the first 6. the next one I went 4,10,14,1,13,2,9,6,7. The last one I gave up on.

Good exercises.:D

Dennis, that'll certainly work on the real table. Just seeing a near stop shot pattern has to be worth something. In the first stop shot layout thread I posted I was amazed that there was more than one stop shot pattern. I think there were about 4. I'm glad you're doing them.
