Straight Pool in Europe

Are there many straight pool tournaments in Europe? Is it on television? Are there any tapes or dvds around of any such tournaments?

Hardly any 14.1 tournaments in Europe. In Weert, Holland they had a straight pool "open" in January with 8 possible entries and Niels Feijen took the title. I think someone taped some of the matches and have already offered to make copies out of them here in this forum... Contact HOB Weert for the tapes...

There are plenty of capable straight pool players in Europe but not many tournaments and that is a shame. Straight pool is my favourite game followed by one-pocket.

I'm not sure about tournaments, but their leagues play 14.1 weekly. I used to belong to a league when I lived in Germany. DYNAMITE PLAYERS!!

On this subject, what's the European scene in US-style pool like generally?

Here in the UK, and several other European countries, most people play on 6 - 7 ft tables, with 2" balls (and a slightly smaller white). In contrast there isn't much happening in the US-style pool scene, since you have to go to a snooker / pool hall to play (pubs all use the standard UK equipment).

I've begun playing a bit more US pool since starting a job very close to a snooker club, I doubt I'd ever get to that kind of level, but I'm interested at where in Europe US pool is the main game.

I've heard that Christian Reimering of Germany has ran over 400 in the past, I have no idea if this is true or not, can anybody verify this? If this is true

I'm not aware of that run, but Thomas Engert has run over 490. Germany, with Hohmann, Souquet, Ortmann, Reimering and Engert, seems to have a very strong straight pool pedigree.

Uh, Pin I think you might want to check your facts a little. There are now two major professional tours in the UK, every time a snooker club does a refurb they are taking out snooker tables and putting in 9 x 4.5 tables. That it is not the favoured game in pubs is neither here nor there!

Yeah, but when you say major, they're not really up there with the English-style pool tours, right?
Or are they?
