Streaming Pool Events...

This is perhaps the best thing to happen to pool(and alot of other tihngs) in a real long time. A year ago I would ask people in the poolrooms if they ever watched pool on their computers at home-I got blank stares as recently as a few months ago(last time i went into a pool room).

So I figure it like this we know of streaming here cause were computer people, more so than most, and we see the same names in chat every USTREAM show. I have figured the whole time there are alot more people out there who would be in the audience if they knew about streaming.

With that in mind I did a little poking around tonight and came up with the following:

Sorry I dont know how to post the graph, and thats my point look at the viewership numbers explode on that graph, I hope someone can please post that graph in this thread.

Point is streaming isnt a novilty-ITS HERE TO STAY!!! Yes I said some things out of concern about TAR- I WAS WRONG!!!, the numbers are swelling and we all need to promote streaming to everyone we know in pool or friends, it cant hurt and dosent cost anything to promote it.

we gotta make hay while the sun is shining!!

IF WE GET 10 KIDS INTO THE POOL ROOM B/C THEY SAW POOL ON USTREAM THEN WERE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, When since 86 have we had any push??? this aint COM but its a shot in the butt.

I sure hope that you are right and that streaming is not just a novelty.

I have invested a huge amount of time, effort and a proportionally large amount of money into streaming. And I have done so because I believe that it will make a difference.

I have noticed a difference here in West Michigan, I hear people talking about watching the streams and telling me that they are telling friends and family to log on and watch. I can say that it has yet to make a difference in the pool rooms, but it is a start.

Why can't we take the stream to the poolroom? I am going to bring a laptop and link it to the big screen at my local room. I have started a Wed. night 9ball tourney there. I can run some archived matches of the pros to get the interest flowing and then tell people about TAR, Lenny, Matt, SDE, and GSBT to mention a few. If everyone can try to do the same thing, we will build it ourselves and then, they will come. Just a thought.

As tech gets better, more affordable and productions get better more and more people will be tuning in.

Good viewing monitors and computers are cheaper and more readily available as well.

There are pros and cons. This year I chose to stay at home rather than drive to Hardtimes several days to watch. Its abou an hour drive and I went in person once but then stayed and watched the feed. This could be a negative.

A huge pro is that its live pool and introduces players to players around the world.

I have watched TAR, ontherail, IPT and the michigan one. All were good.
I would love to see all of them have more interviews with the guys. TAR has done this and its great. I think it can produce fans for many players.

I can see a day where production is off the charts with multiple tables and all major events streamed. Perhaps even good enough to edit and sell to a network. Sell it dirt cheap or give them the footage to start with.

I also think that the ones doing the production should start looking for possible sponsors for equipment and expenses. I wouldnt mind a plug or two in the middle of the events.
Even AZ cuemakers could help out. Give a cue to TAR and have them draw for the winner each matchup. It has to be someone that bought the feed. Either small segments each event with the cuemaker getting some ad time or an interview in exchange.
That would only add more viewers and perhaps entice people to buy the multi day packages instead of one day. Basically getting a raffle ticket as well as great feeds.

One other thought of mine is that this year the Companies liek Tar etc. get with the leagues in Vegas and stream matches. APA, BCA finals etc.

I know that almost all the Teams would buy copies and that people would buy the stream. Start it with about 16 teams still in and you get 16 teams friends and families likely to watch.
Probably not a huge money maker but it could be combined and used to advertise other feeds.
For league play get Shane and another player to play some bar table 8 ball
live streamed and in front of the league players in Vegas. Sell the copies and make the players aware of future events. Pool players not in Vegas would buy the stream as well I believe even knowing it was an exhibition.

We all love watching action but to make it work I think just streaming action events isnt as attractive to advertisers and potential clients.

the interviews and ads on live streams and more

The mpt was actually created with selling advertising to companies to get money added for players it works well. I plug a lot of businesses each event and on the players pulse show and its very inexpensive for companies to advertise and they get a lot of it.

As for player interviews, that's now standard because so many people did want to hear more from the players. We also have the show on monday nights now that are players interviews primarily.

I also have an invitational event coming soon.......only 16 invited playing off to see who the biggest monster is.......details coming soon!!

Its taking off and streaming is certainly here to stay and the advertisers are catching on.....it won't take much more time at all!
