Strengthening wood joint threads

Is there a way you can strengthen or coat the wood threads in a shaft for a 3/8x10 joint?
While I have no problem at present on some of my cues, I was wondering about the possibility of long term wear on bare wood threads.

Thin SuperGlue will penetrate the wood threads strengthening them against wear ... but you need to re-tap them to clean them up.
A bit of candle wax on the joint pin will help reduce thread wear also.

I'd imagine a penetrating oil finish like BLO or tung pill
oil would have some benefit.

+1.
for wax, i use beeswax cause we keep the busy little critters anyhow.

I daub the superglue in with a splinter and then let the lathe run so centrifugal force helps keep it uniform so as not to create blobs that could throw the tap when going back in.

I use a solvent based polyurethane varnish. Fill up the hole and let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes, then pour it back into the can. It works great but as previously mentioned it may need to be re tapped.

I guess I should have asked how to strengthen the wood threads if one doesn't own a lathe or tap. I'll stick to the wax method for now.
