all I gotta say is, Earl Strickland has got some balls. He's almost like the Happy Gilmore of billiards. To say on Live T.V. "you suck, you suck, all of london sucks" I'm sorry but I think that is a personality worth watching. I don't think it was appropriate behavior, It definitely wasn't professional & I don't think he was being sarcastic, but it is hilarious, & it definitely caught my attention. So even though there is a time & place for everything, & that definitley wasn't the time or place for insults, I wanna say thanks Earl for a good laugh. No offense to anyone who IS offended. :D

LMAO......."the Happy Gilmore of billiards"! :D :p :p

Apart from his massive talent in using a pool cue, I like watching Earl because you never know what he is going to say or do next.

Excellent post C. [ I,m still laughing]. I wish I had your writing talent..

Gabber........Earl is the man.

Thoughts

I don't think the American revolutionaries were particularly
nice when they objected as I recall from History.... lol

So the British hecklers are the socially oppressive monarchy...
and Earl is a Pilgrim fighting for his rights as an individual.

Did I get your analogy right? How on Earth does this apply? Earl is a petty name-caller who stands for nothing.

If a real superstar, like say Shaquille O'Neal or Peyton Manning, took it upon himself to personally rebuke each and every one of their hecklers then they would never have time to play another game. Not only that, they would be so distracted that their performance would wither. Earl's behavior goes to show that he is small potatoes and doesn't have the strength of mind or character to put himself above such antagonists.

The funny part is that they're only heckling him b/c they know he'll react, and he does EVERY TIME. What a waste of energy.

So NaCL, what was John MacEnroe? Or that one college head coach, damn I forgot his name, the one who used to throw chairs at his players?

Earl FEEDS off of this kind of things, lot's of people do. I would bet anything Shaquille is a bigger trash talker than Earl, he just does it to the people he is playing against on the court.

Talking of Hecklers...I am british....lol.....an Earl is awesome and I can assure you most british pool fans agree with me...(go to www.pro9.co.uk to see for yourselves) why becauses its all fun and thats what sport is mean to be and we are used to other superstars doing the same....Alex Higgins probably one of the most loved and talented snooker players of ALL time once punched a referee. (Point of interest he was also in the European mosconi cup team that won in 95), Eric Cantona, flys in the crowd during a football (Sorry Soccer match) and injures a fan.....yet he is still worshipped as the King of Old Trafford......these characters are capable of magic and moments pure brilliance in their sport and that is why we love them.

Lighten up and enjoy one of the games greatest players and entertainers....you know you will miss when he is gone.

well put heckler, every sport has their own "human symbol" for each noticed personality, some people are noted for being the nicest, some have no personality at all, & some people just say what they want when they want, & I respect that, to a certain degree.. Earl is harmless, let there be some action in this sport, every other sport has action in it, well I can't really remember the last time I saw bowlers fighting on tv. Pool is a mental sport, & I know from experience that we all turn a little "mental" once & a while. If it really hurts anyone, then maybe people need to be "punished". but otherwise its all fun & games until someone shoots their eye out.;)

The crowd knows how Earl is and they obviously messed with him to get that type of reaction. You can't compare pool stars with other sports stars for the most part. Like someone's example of Shaq cussing at the crowd. Basketball games are noisy already, and it's a custom to shark the person from the away team shooting a free throw. In pool it's supposed to be quiet when someone is shooting. The fans in London are nuts from what I hear. I bet that most of them were gleaming with joy when they saw Earl explode, because that's what they were trying to get him to do.

So was anyone "sharking" Earl while he was shooting or was it just fan commotion between shots or matches? Either way I believe Earl is sticking a fork in himself, the sport and the USA further and further with his antics.

1st time: Funny, 2nd time: People go to watch the funny, 3rd time: Can we change the channel somehow?

"mental"... "punished".... u giving me any hints shugabrownie?

how are u doing btw? havent heared alot of u, guess ur still SO busy with the work etc. i tried to check the tristar on you 11dec tourny, but didnt see anything. did u participate?

anyway u got my mail, dont be afraid to use it. I miss getting some news from u.

oh this is some icing on that cake..."Finally, it was a tearful Earl Strickland; "I'm really shocked I got Most Valuable Player award and I would like to apologise for what I said about London - it's a nice town!" I'm glad he appologized, it was really the only option left as a professional.. It was the right thing to do.

solartje: I miss u too muffin, I didn't play in that tourney, this xmas season is just wearing me out. can't wait til its over. then i'll play again. Did you get a pool cue yet?:)

nope, should arive today :) ive been waiting all day at home waiting till i hear the magic sound of the bell when he rings... Ah man im so excited. its like knowing u will get get layed for the first time, and u know what day, but not exactly when and u just cant think of anything else...

thought so about the tourney; i was hoping to see u climb some spots and win a nice 15 or more points. ill watch u when i start again then. Ps about the Jenn think to come visit me, it didnt work out. The only club who can afford vip players, still didnt had 50% of what it would cost :( im so sorry, and i feel :( . One day C'tje, one day  not giving up hopes

It happened during the Mosconi Cup of December 2005. There was a full front page article on the homepage of AZB when it happened along with a pic of Archer holding him back from the crowd.

Oh since he said all of London sucks I figured he was in London. Did they really air the Mosconi cup LIVE like the original poster said (Earl said it on LIVE tv)? What channel? I didn't know they aired any pool live these days.

Heckler makes some pretty good points here, could you imagine the Mosconi Cup without Earl or the British fans for that matter involved with it. I miss the days when the Mosconi was held in London every year, who knows maybe next year....
