I never heard of such a rule that you can't repeat the same shot 3 times in a row. That is like the chess rule.

I know I have played many games where the both players repeatedly tap a ball into the rail, and try to freeze the cueball on top of it. The first person to mess up usually loses that game. This same type of scenario happens in One Pocket all the time.

If this is actually a rule, I have never seen it enforced locally, or even talked about locally. And this is the first time I have heard it talked about on these boards, as well. (Not that I am an authority on this...)

There isn't a rule in the World Standard rules that limits the number of legal safeties in a 9 or 10 ball game.

None of the safety shots in that first game between Rob and Earl met the conditions of 'Froze to the rail' That is why Earl and Rob kept checking the OB's position on the rail.

3.38 OBJECT BALL FROZEN TO CUSHION OR CUE BALL
This rule applies to any shot where the cue ball's first contact with a ball is with one that is frozen to a cushion or to the cue ball itself. After the cue ball makes contact with the frozen object ball, the shot must result in either:
(a) A ball being pocketed, or;
(b) The cue ball contacting a cushion, or;
(c) The frozen ball being caused to contact a cushion attached to a
separate rail, or;
(d) Another object ball being caused to contact a cushion with which it was not already in contact. Failure to satisfy one of those four requirements is a foul. (Note: 14.1 Continuous and other games specify additional requirements and applications of this rule; see specific game rules.) A ball which is touching a cushion at the start of a shot and then is forced into a cushion attached to the same rail is not considered to have been driven to that cushion unless it leaves the cushion, contacts another ball, and then contacts the cushion again. An object ball is not considered
frozen to a cushion unless it is examined and announced as such by either
the referee or one of the players prior to that object ball being involved
in a shot.

A rule comment / question:

In the very first game, Saez plays a safetykick, hits the five and drives the five into the cushion. Strickland safes back, Saez replies with the very same shot, safetykick driving the five to the cushion, and repeats the shot for the third time after Stricklands safety reply.

As far as I remember, you can only repeat a safety twice, the third time you have to either
1. drive the object ball to another cushion, or
2. let whitey hit a cushion after impact, or
3. drive another object ball into the cushion

Actually, #3 was what Saez did with the 10-ball on his fourth safety kick on the five!

My point is, according to the world standarized rules Strickland should have had ball in hand after Saez' third safety, and would probably have won that game.

If Saez hadn't kicked the white into the 5-ball, but just shot it directly into the cushion, Earl may had remembered the rule.

Any refs out there who can confirm? Or am I wrong about this

He wears the belt for added support. He's had a terrible time with his kidneys. (stones and such)

If I could play 1/2 his speed, I'd wrap up like a Mummy. If that's what it took........

No, look carefully, not the cue that he broke with, the one that he is actually playing with. I don't think it's a cuetec. Although I'm sure he still uses them for his televised matches. That's too bad about his kidney's man, poor guy.
