Stripes or Solids?............

Ok, my team played league last night, and after a few beers got to discussing hypothetical pool stuff. Here is what we got stuck on; what if during BCA league, the person breaking makes all 7 stripes on the break? Does he still have the choice of taking solids or can he just shoot the 8 ball? Another question; if he chooses stripes and opts to shoot the 8 ball and MISSES, does the table remain open? Could his opponent pick stripes and shoot the 8 ball which is jawed in a pocket from the miss?
Remember: making a break entitles the breaker to shoot again. The table is open until somebody legally pockets a ball to designate which set of ball they continue shooting.
Where are those rule books? Who has the definitive answer to this hypothetical question?;)

That wouldn't change anything. If you chose stripes, you'd just be shooting the 8 on your 1st shot. If you missed, the table would still be open, and your opponent would be in the exact same situation.
 
From the BCA League rules of 2008 and good until Jun 2009

Under the rules of 8 ball

2.6 Establishing Groups
1. Groups are established when the first object ball is legally pocketed on a shot after the break. The player legally pocketing the first ball is assigned that group, and the opponent is assigned the other group.
2. If all of either group of balls are pocketed on the break or illegally pocketed before the groups are established, either player may legally shoot the 8-ball during their inning. If the 8-ball is legally pocketed on such a shot, the game is won.
 
that would be a hilarious situation, especially if the guy who broke shanked the eight. LAFFLES

The correct answer is in an above post, but I don't think your question is all that hypothetical. I have twice in my life made nine balls in a typical 8-ball format rack. I guess the odds of seven of them being all solids or stripes is very low, but as many racks get broke by as many pool players in the world today, I would think that this scenario has probably already occurred, and probably more than once.
