Stroke..Or lack of

THis is a good practice and I used to do this, but it doesn't identify other areas of the stroke that may need work.
I like a pendulum stroke with my elbow fixed, and stroking into a bottle doesn't allow that, so it's not for me.

I've heard of standing a couple of dominoes up side-by-side and stroking between them for practice - that would work with my pendulum stroke. But the old practice of just stroking on the rail over the top edge of the cushion is even better for me. For one thing, I can see how straight my whole cue is going, not just the tip, so I can detect smaller movements.

Scott,

I said if you don't see any improvement over a few months, then seek out your friendly neighborhood BCA instructor. ;)

There's no reason why a person can't "have some balls" and "be a man" and try to work it out himself for a few months.

I've got much more to say on this subject but am deciding whether or not to start my own thread...

Yours Truly,
The Woim
There's nothings ballsy, or manly about trying to figure out something on your own. The best time to seek out the help of an instructor is right now. You have to know what you are doing wrong before it can be fixed. Once your flaws are indentified, you will be given drills to practice. How fast you progress is completely up to you.

Big C,

Work it out any way you want. But that "progress" being up to you, why can't you figure it out yourself? Are you the captain of your fate? Of course, that's how The Woim sees it. ;)

I'm actually formulating a thread of my own on this topic but first I want to have a gameplan in mind.

Sincerely,
The Woim

Just wondering why you would say that. Not long ago, you wrote this:

You must develop a pure perfect stroke you can trust and that will take a coach and a advanced level teacher. When you build that perfect stroke and get in dead punch you can now go play some serious pool. Now the game is won and lost between the 6” of your ears. You next master the mental side of the game...

Which one is it? I'm not starting any crap with you, just wondering why you would say one thing in your forum and then advocate something completely different over here. Have you actually changed your mind about this, or are you just trying to stay in character?

You could probably learn Algebra or Calculus on your own through trial and error...but wouldn't it be much faster if you had a teacher???

train - analyze - train more - analyze more

Joe Tucker's third eye trainer is pretty good, sorta like putting up dominoes.

Nothing beats a stroke analysis with a qualified instructor though.

I love when people say that you can't teach someone how to stroke a ball.

Of course you can't, if you don't know how yourself. :D

it's all about the setup. You said that you're fine when you concentrate but when you feel comfortable you miss... You MUST be doing something different. Take your time, develope a routine and repeat it over and over.
