stroke problem

On my back stroke I tend to come a little to the inside and then on the forward stroke I push my hand away from my body. When I try to correct this I go to far and miss the target. I'm doing the golf t drill and keep knocking the left one down. Any suggestions to
help me fix this?
Thanks

What you may try is, Pick a knuckle (from the tip of the finger to the first knuckle) on either your index, middle or ring finger of your grip hand. This knuckle should always be on the shot line as you stroke back and forth and inline with the bridge hand. Feel the cue laying on that knuckle.

You may have to adjust your stance to accommodate this new movement.

If your in an area where there is an instructor. He/she can get you straightened out in a very short period of time.

Have fun.

Could be a compensation for grip, stance, aim or a combination of those, perhaps even something else. Post some videos here and/or get a pool lesson from a quality teacher.

OK, I'm the last person who should be giving advice but...

I had a similar issue for awhile and my instructor setup a shot and the put a mirror at the end of the table so I could watch my arm as I hit the cue ball over and over again. It seems awkward at first but after awhile I was able to see what it looked like when the stroke was straight and get used to how that felt.

My stroke still isn't perfect but its getting better. It may be worth a try.

You could try what the snooker players do: put your chin on your cue and keep it there through the stroke. It is instantaneous feedback on side-to-side problems.

If your eyesight and/or aim is off, and you build a very straight stroke--and then miss shots, you will still be in a world of hurt. Very few players whose aim is off can maintain a straight stroke consistently because they are adjusting/swerving/swooping to try to pocket the balls, consciously or subconsciously. You should be checking your vision center and personal eyesight in addition to fixing a stroke.

Thanks.

You can fix this but it won't be easy and you probably won't be able to do it by yourself. You're going to need the help of a qualified instructor working with you every step of the way.

You will need a realignment of your stance and you will have to learn to feel a different arm position relative to your torso. You will also have to change the way your hand moves your cue through the stroke.

This will feel as uncomfortable as hell and you may even feel like quitting. That's how foreign the fix will feel. But rest assured, it can be done. You will just have to learn to accept that what feels comfortable to you right now is wrong. In time, the correct way will feel right.

If your stroke follow through has your grip hand going away from your body (causing your tip to go to the left) you can try adjusting your elbow slightly the opposite of what you would think. In this instance I believe your elbow is too close to your body and naturally swings away from your body.

A way to practice is over the rail of the table, use the line of where the felt on the rail meets the wood of the rail. Do setup like this is the line of the shot (over the rail) and do practice strokes paying attention to your tip. If on follow through your tip goes left, adjust your elbow slightly right. If on follow through your tip goes right, adjust your elbow slightly left.

widen your stance,,,,,helped me ALOT in steering, the wider my stance the more straight I can stroke. worth a try.
