Stupid idea? Undoubtedly, but I might try it.

The only thing I've tried is using a striped ball in place of a cb, shooting at balls at various angles and keeping the stripe wobble to a minimum.
That's a good method. I think it's important to make the practice as much like a shot as possible. If you practice in a way that is not much like playing, you may perfect your mechanics in that situation but it is too easy to slip back into your old ways when you have to pocket a real ball in a real game.
 
Another method is to freeze a ball to the rail and place your cue ball straight out from it, a couple feet away.
Shoot the CB at the center of the OB so it double kisses and returns to your cue. Move the CB back another 6" and repeat until you can do it x times in a row. Move it back 6"and repeat.
I feel you're looking into the mouth of madness, but GL.
