Sugar Mark near joint...

Will a sugar mark at the joint just under the rings in the forearm cause
any issues with joint integrity?

The mark on my cue is close to the outer edge and runs
perpendicular to the axis of symmetry. I am guessing that it is
approximately 1/8 the diameter from the outer edge.

I will try and post a pic later if needed...

What would make you think that a sugar mark would cause a structural problem? Its still solid wood. Sugar is actually indicative of a healthy tree. People have to realize that only about 1% of the maple cut is selected good enough for cues. But personally I would rather see some sugar than a bleached out looking piece of wood.

I understand your concern, more so if it is a brand new custom cue. I however used to hand pick each shaft to put on my own cue and every one had sugar near the joint end. In the line of vision, no, just because of distraction.

Isn't the sugar lines from cutting the tree down when its to warm?I have plenty of shafts with markings in them that I make for my personal players with no complaints, I'm not sure I would put one on another customers cue unless it was a monster shaft and ok'd by them personally.

As others have said, it is not a weak point in the wood, just a mark - think of it like a beauty mark on a woman's face! Some like them, some don't.

My 2 cents,
Gary

Thanks for all the responses. I figured it would go that way but wanted to put it to bed. The mark is small and doesnt bother me cosmetically. I appreciate all the input.
