Looking for any friendly advice on shipping a billiards chair from Indiana to Massachusetts, besides not doing it. :D Any freight companies folks have worked with before that they like and trust that don't cost one arm and two legs?

can you dis assemble it and box it up?

Have some going that way do your hauling. Have you talked with some like Yellow-Roadway LTL Carrier?

That would indeed be nice to find someone going that way. I posted on uship.com so maybe that will do it?

I have not spoken with that specific carrier but got a few quotes from others, but they're all a bit high (but maybe that's what it is), so was hoping to get a few more, or find someone going that way as you said.

If you are even thinking about shipping rates from 2018 and earlier--these no longer apply--so get your mind into the present.
Shipping has gone from an incidental expense to a significant expense.

This should ship on a pallet. Find a shipper that give a pallet price, won't be cheap but it's the safest way, go to a local furniture store and see if you can get a box from them for it, use a lot of padding and maybe build a frame that attaches to the pallet that makes a strong top for stacking.
