Hi everyone,
Working on a CF extension for a customer and we wanted it to match up to exactly the same size as the butt cap. So I had to add some finish to the CF. Doing so created some runoff on the back and the joint face. I’d like to remove the lip but I’m worried that I’ll crack the finish. Thoughts?

Sanding bob in your router, or even a router bit, but extreme caution on approach.
Approach the cutter so it is turning the same direction as the lathe. ("climb cutting")
Not cutting against the lathe rotation.

Also, when personally feeling over-cautious and under confident, i place a micrometer stop, so it stops the carriage before the cutter contacts the work. Then dial the stop back a .001 or so at a time. This gives very positive control.

You will still have to faintly break the sharp edge of the finish itself with, say, 400 - 600 grit paper, maybe stuck to a stick, if you are not feeling dexterous.

What kind of finish? If it's super glue then GL, you will need a super sharp tool bit and maybe put a little wax on the finish before cutting it....even then.

One of the many drawbacks to super glue finishes.

CA finish. Went with a razor blade and went real slow to get it down to the juma. Feathered the sharp corner edge with 600 grit up to 12,000.
