Summer is here....who is responsible for WARP IN TRANSIT

In my opinion this may be the slowest time of the year unless there is overnight shipping included in the deal. I had something like this happened to me exactly last year with a Mezz cue. Now I'm just basing this off the season we're in and as someone that buys online. I find packages to be stuck on the truck for a long time or stuck at a facility.

When a package finally arrives the items are warm to the touch. Till this day I'm not sure if my Mezz shaft is warped from transit. It's not straight that's for sure. I normally don't buy cues in the summer for this reason but I've been getting the bug to buy.

I see that most sellers already offer overnight shipping. It's a service they offer and some ONLY do overnight shipping.

So who is responsible for this? It warps then the seller wasn't describing the cue correctly. It's a nightmare for both parties and the last thing we need is warpage in transit.

If you're a dealer with half a brain.. you overnight the cue, or 2 day it, depending upon value. NEVER ship on a Thursday or Friday that allows the cue to sit in a truck or warehouse. I would say the shipper unless the buyer had made the arrangements, or the shipper is FOB origins.

Common sense doesn't cost money unless you do not have any.

I doubt that a cue can warp due to one day in the truck, and if that happened, then the cue was about to warp anyway.

The heat is not the big issue; it's the humidity.

There was a time that I travelled a lot to Hong Kong. Over there, everyone has lockers at the pool rooms, and the cues stay there in a controlled environment. Some players have multiple cues in multiple clubs.
I got a cue there to play while I was there, a Dominiak sweet 16 cue. I didn't get a locker, and my hotel was very close. When I got back home, I noticed that the shaft had warped. HK is very humid...

Painful to here.

Wonder what the uptake of CF is in Hong Kong these days

Shanghai is the same

ive had cues for 50 plus years never leaving my cars. none have warped and from florida to california to seattle and across the northern states up to 30 below or more. all seasons.
if your cue warps it means the wood wasnt seasoned before you got it.

and if you buy a cue, until it is in your hands, the seller is responsible for it. unless prior agreements.

best reason to only buy on credit card as you can then cancel or question the sale.

its not worth buying off the internet from a stranger unless he is reputable and well known and says plainly that you can return it if not satisfied, or not ,then damaged or not as advertised.

and you only send money to his home or business and you have googled it to see that he lives or works there. and spoke to him on his phone with a googled number that corresponds to him.

otherwise if you get taken i laugh at your misfortune.

I only buy cheap cues so some angst, no worries. Latest rabbit hole, Valhalla. Returned one, replacement is straighter but shaft is cut from wavy grain wood. :ROFLMAO: The lathe lines are just a bit snaky. :ROFLMAO:

Did a drop test - simple premise. Drop the cue vertically onto the tip. The bounce is more or less how it's gonna hit. (tip withstanding) Probably shoot as well as any of my collection lol... cry... lol

Same here.

I used to leave my Gina overnight in the trunk my car up in Montana during the summer and winter. Never warped. Of course Ernie seasons and microscopically turns down his wood over the course of 18 years but basically a good well made cue won't warp from something as insignificant as time in a truck or a warehouse.

Worry much?
If you were to actually buy a cue pay for next day shipping. Or wait for winter. Oops, that’s something else you can add to your list.

So, the guy that keeps saying to buy US made custom cues is complaining about an Asian mass produced cue that is warped.

From Mezz: Please note that the warranty does not cover problems resulting from warping and abuse.

Um...really? Do you play with them in the summer, or do they stay in climate controlled storage?

I have an Espiritu cue that went through Hurricane Katrina. It stunk like a mixture of sea water and sewage. It's straight.

I have had my Joss for 40 years. It has been to 9 countries and 15 states with me. Flew on planes, traveled on boats, went from the mountains to the tropics. It's straight with all 7 shafts.

So who is responsible for this?

I think the answer is clear.

yea the weather is all over the map in missoula, mt. and all seasons and humidity and temps.
proof is in the pudding that warped shafts are badly made ones, or cheaply made with uncured wood.

howd you do against quandy and fudsy.

hmmm, if I recall correctly I beat them both in the State 8ball tournaments in Great Falls.

I also beat Chewy in a Corner Pockets Missoula 9ball event : -)

My Dieckman cues didn't go through 18 years of turning.

But maybe from squares to round then cut to a general shape then rested for months and years before finished.

All my shaft wood were 20 years and older when I purchased them new from Dennis.

I believe he originated the phrase "River of Wood"

Maybe he got it from someone else like Schrager? If it went down that way? IDK

At any rate, it took 3 years to get a cue from Dennis after I picked one from a group photo.

Later I ordered an Ultra Lite cue. That only took 2 years. He had to make the butt.
The butt still moves after 10 years. The shafts never move. It's my player regardless of butt movement.

Don't care a whit about the butt.

the buyer must be satisfied, if not the item is returned and buyer refunded

use paypal g & s if you aren't solid with the seller

I wouldn't worry too much about warp. A friend of mine was in a car accident, which resulted in a fatality. New York State Police put his car in impound for a little over 2 years while they "investigated.". His Joss cues still rolled straight after 2 years in the car trunk.
