When I was a young man, and serving with the US Navy, I would sometimes catch a bus outside the main gate of the Naval base, and ride it to a small poolhall located in a strip mall a few miles away. The owner was a guy named Joe.
One evening, while playing a game of eight-ball with a fellow swabby, Joe came over to our table and asked if I would come see him after the game. I said okay and when we were through I went over to the counter to find out what he wanted.
"You've been coming in here for several weeks now and from what I can tell you seem like a nice young man." Joe said. "I was wondering if you could do me a favor."
"Sure, Joe. Name it." I replied.
"I was wondering if you would go out with my daughter." He said.
"Yeah, I guess so." I said. A bit taken aback.
"Well she's about your age and a real nice girl and all, but there's a small problem. She was born without the use of her legs and is in a wheel chair. Now you don't need to worry about anything. I have a van that's all set up for the wheelchair, that you can use, and I'll even spring for a movie show and something to eat. What do you say?"
I thought about it for a minute then told him I would. Joe was just too nice a guy to say no to and I could tell by the look on his face he was glad I accepted his offer.
A week later I went to Joe's house to pick her up. He had said that she was a pretty girl but the word pretty didn't even come close. She was beautiful. Her hair was long and golden and her eyes were the deepest blue I had ever seen. If it wasn't love at first sight it was darn close, and any problems with her being in a wheelchair just faded away. We dated all that spring and into the summer.
I'll always remember one night in the middle of July. We were in her back yard, sitting beside each other. She was in her wheelchair and I sat in a lawn chair. The moon was soft and full and the fireflies were winking at each other when I put my arm around her shoulders, pulled her close to me, and kissed her for the very first time. It was an amazing experience. And as we kissed our passions grew and grew, as passions do, until breathless, she asked me to make love to her.
I didn't know what to do and I asked her how.
"Push me over to that tree with the low-hanging limb. Boost me up and I'll hold on to it." She said.
I did as she requested and that's how we made love.
I had no sooner finished helping her back into the wheelchair, when the porch light came on. Standing behind the screened door was Joe and he called out my name. I walked over to him, with my heart beating in my throat.
He looked at me for a very long time and then said. "I saw what you did, and I want you to know that I appreciate it."
"Appreciate what Joe?" I asked.
He smiled and said. "I appreciate your helping her back into the wheelchair. Most of the guys just leave her hanging in the tree."

That was a bit lame, but it's nice you remembered your job.
See you next week.

C'mon pt...leave her hanging in a tree? That's gold, man. Gold! :D

I was just trying to be 'punny'.
But talking about hangers could be a faux pas on a billiard forum.

I actually preferred your 'open bridge' explanation.
...hope you are preparing for next week

Good one!

Man you are something else...I was buying this for a little while but half way thru I remembered who was telling this story.

Good one!
