Are the tables open for play? Green fee? or bring quarters?

They are not coin op tables, or I should say if they are, then they are not locked down. I don't actually remember if they had coin slots but I don't think they did.

There is also an action garage with some tables where you can play for a few bucks. They are divided by $, $$, $$$ stakes as to what table is what.

If you are friends with any TAP league folks, you can also wander over to their side and shoot a bit with them.

You'll pay at the door... trust me...

If you play any other event you'll have a conflict in your schedule and will have to forfeit ... trust me. The Cut in tourny $$ is deep ... Players lose. Other than that try to have fun playing Bar Box pool. Yay..not

Yea it's terrible.... it's only pool heaven but because Allen Hopkins actually makes a profit from a pool event it's a mortal sin. Stay away from it if you don't like it...

It's the best event of the year ... only D.C. Comes close. Go and enjoy being surrounded by all pool all day.

Haha! Looks like someone didn't do so great at the expo one year and came to try and sway someone else from going....

Everyone has their own opinions about it. Here's mine:

It's a tough event with lots of action. Pool players from all over come to watch and enjoy the atmosphere. Yes, all amateur events are on BB, but they also have one pocket, 3c and a plethora of other events going on, played on different table sizes.

Rhatten also left out the part that every single surrounding pool hall in the greater area and beyond will be having tournaments and action every night after your event closes for the evening. Maybe he forgot about it, maybe he didn't want to go.

But hey, to each their own. Can't please everybody, but a lot of people are pleased enough to keep the funk alive every year. Myself included. I get to see my parents and play in an event that's way over my head. Some people don't like that I suppose:cool:

If you are there the opening night get into the warm up tourney. It is a great time and a opportunity to win some cash.

Be prepared for some good competition. The Senior division isn't a cakewalk. I have heard a few players being disappointed as they couldn't wait until they were old enough to play on it and found that the old folks weren't any easier.

A friend that was in both the seniors and super seniors was surprised that the super was just as tough.

🎱

Have to amend that bro. Local rooms will be filled with action. Not enough tables open for tournaments. I live 15 minutes from the expo. The pros hit the local rooms. If you feel froggy you can make a game with them. There can be a lot of barking. Great show in the local rooms.

Super Seniors is the toughest division and the one that fills up first. Lot of old pros and open players.

I distinctly remember going to, and playing in a tournament at Markley a couple years ago, bro. The tourney started late night. There was plenty of action, but I'm not sure it's going to jam up every pool room in the zip code kinda action. But you would know more than myself. I'm just there visiting old friends :)

--Edit: and as far as action goes, I've already got games lined up, that's how good it is. And I'm terrible at finding games.

Markley's has tournaments during expo? News to me. Couple days before the expo last year I saw Pagaluyan (spelling?) there practicing and goofing around there. I usually play at Classic, ten minutes from the expo. Couple years ago Van Boening was giving a local the 6 and the breaks in 10 ball one night. Fun time of year.

I agree, best fun I've had with pool all year, except for our local state league championships.

You'll see pros walking among the crowd. Rodney handed me my badge that fell off my case one year. I stopped and talked with upstate Al in the parking lot for a few minutes. Bob M. picked up Corey from the airport and brought him to Drexeline and sat and talked with my dad and I for a while.

All these memories that'll never go away.OP you're gonna love it! I almost guarantee it!

The mornings or after midnight the amateur open tables are pretty much open as long as you've been there for the day. If you come at midnight I think it's $10 to play until 7am.

Usually my buddies late do a $20 tournament winner takes all. Very fun! There's also mini tournaments going on all night by the directors if you still aren't satisfied.

Classic Billiards is about 10 min from the Expo, great GC tables, an American snooker table, and also a 3c table!

FastOne - are you going? Have you been? Last year I tried to have a little AZB get-together with JasonLaus and some other folks. But it was wayyy too busy out there to even log on here! Couldn't talk pool, I was too busy playing!!

I am not but I wish I was!! I have never been to any big tournaments, just on my 6th year shooting. Would like to try the SBE, US Open, or USBTC sometime or maybe all 3 of them.

You're free to grab any tables between matches. If a match is scheduled, and the players for that match is waiting to warm up, please be considerate and move

At night, tables are supposed to be $10 for the entire night. I don't recall that being enforced in past years.

Quarters are only for the action tables, I believe they're in a separate delineated part of the convention center.

Do yourself a favor and go to the SBE. The first year I played in 2014 I had only been playing 9 ball a few months. My first match was against a guy by the name of Jorge Rodriguez. No idea who the guy was but watching him play was a thing of beauty. I later found he was an open player from NYC. He now competes as a pro. I did manage to win one game against him but only because I made the 9 on the break. Not every player is of that caliber and if you're lucky you'll play a few rounds against opponents that aren't monsters.

My point being no matter how you play you will take something from it. I've improved every year since, last year I made it through 3 rounds before getting knocked out. Every year I learned something so if nothing else it was a cheap lesson.

Just do it!
