Hi, first time poster looooong time lurker. Picked numerous invaluable tidbits in years past. I thank all here at AZ.

RKC or anyone, when super glueing seams do use a feather wedge between slate that ultimately get soaked in glue? I've witnessed the install with a 1/2'"X 1" piece of playing card or match book cover between slate in three spots to which glue is applied. Just wondering if you reco method or have a better/different method.

Thanks in advance.

I been using 3X5 index cards in thirds and ripped in half... I got a huge stack of index cards when I was in alsip, oh rick' you remember the reason we all give our contact info to Felice at simonis for? I remember glen instructing us to give the info to her for some reason..

Rob, I know this has come up before, but apparently needs more clarification. My impression is that Ivan and Felice felt that the mechanics who took the initiative to show up to the convention had the drive to be top notch mechanics. They want a list of contact information for those people willing to put in their time for free to learn some advanced tricks of the trade. However, just showing up to the thing was only the FIRST step in proving yourself a reputable mechanic worthy of a Simonis referral. There were homeowners that attended to learn a little about doing their own table. Do you think Simonis has those guys' phones ringing off the hook to recover tables in their area? They aren't going to use each and every name they got at the seminar. You've got to remember how many people left before the job was done. Now some people had scheduled work they couldn't delay, so I don't blame them. But there were other guys that I got the impression learned a little piece that they came to learn and jetted. There were others that didn't take the thing very seriously. I highly doubt Simonis is going to be calling those guys to represent them, because when a customer calls Simonis and they refer that person to you, that's exactly what you're doing. You're representing Simonis, becoming a spokesperson for them.

I actually have gotten calls from Simonis after the seminar. I've gotten a couple of jobs from them. Just a couple. I've also had Simonis refer a couple of people near me who couldn't figure out what they were doing wrong. Just a couple. But before they started calling me, I've ordered cloth from them it seems like every week and always had pleasant conversation. I've attended multiple trade shows, and talked shop with both Felice and Ivan. I feel like I've proved myself in the field as someone reputable, knowledgeable and experienced.

Look at it like this. With all of those numbers Simonis has available, are they going to call the guy that expects a handout, or the guy that's always been able to help them out when they need something?

Oh...and by the way, I also use 3x5 index cards. ;)

They are stiff enough to push into the small seams, but porous enough to wick up the glue. I don't think playing cards will work if they are plastic coated.

I was hoping Simonis was planing future seminars..or to send out info to trade shows to where there booths will be etc...spectator attendance at such seminars and trade shows is key'

From my understanding, Glen was the major planner of that seminar. My understanding is also that there would not be another seminar run like that one. I think there were 40 some people in attendance. By the 3rd day, I think there were less than 10 left to finish all of the work. Jay, Don and I stayed until Tuesday to help finish up and at that point, it was us and the two guys that worked for Ed (the room owner).

As far as trade shows etc, they usually will publish the layout of the event in advance. It's pretty easy to find out exactly where everyone will be. And you can count on Simonis being at every major event.

As far as I know, no...that guy never called. Do you know his name? PM me if you have it. Do you know roughly when he was moving?
