The purpose for this thread is to rally support for the Billiard Education Foundation (BEF). And to help provide encouragement, I am offering to match all AZB contributions up to a total of $500 between now and June 24 (the start of the 2014 Junior Nationals tournament in Louisville, KY).

The BEF is a great organization and a good "cause." They provide various programs for juniors in the billiards community. The BEF funds academic scholarships, produces the Junior National Championships, and sponsors juniors to attend the WPA World Junior Championships. The BEF also encourages youth to stay in school and further their education while building and maintaining a lifelong love of billiards through the “Pool In School” program. For more information, visit the BEF website.

To contribute and trigger a match from me, make your contribution on the BEF donation page and post your amount here (or send me a PM if you prefer to remain anonymous). Samm Diep will verify the donated amounts and I will keep an updated total in this thread.

Again, I will match all AZB donations (up to $500) the BEF receives between now and Junior Nationals. Please post your donation amount on this thread or send me a PM or e-mail to help me monitor the current total.

FYI, the BEF is a non-profit organization and your gift will qualify as a charitable donation, which you can claim on your taxes as a deduction.

Please contribute whatever you can, even if it is only a few bucks.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and for supporting the BEF. Young pool players are the future of pool.

Best regards,
Dave

Thank you for getting things started.

The current total is: $25

Again, the goal is $500 (or more, hopefully), to max out my $500 max and help the BEF and juniors as much as possible.

Who's next?

$25 sent - and a big "thank you", Dave, for your matching contribution and support of the BEF.

My good Doctor - I hope I did it right so you have to cough up some dough. I just donated $25 to keep things rolling.

Thanks for all you do for all of the pool community (and Samm's not so bad herself; always happy to support her juniors).

I hope the AZB community helps you donate the whole $500

To contribute and trigger a match from me, go to the bottom of the page at billiards.colostate.edu and click on the "contribute to programs that benefit junior players" link. If you prefer to not use PayPal, you can send a check or money order directly to the BEF instead. The address and contact info can be found here.

If you can find the time, please listen to the American Billiard Radio program tonight (9pm, Central) at:

www.americanbilliardradio.com

If you can't catch it tonight, you can listen to it anytime in the future in their archives.

I was interviewed about what I do in the pool world and for the BEF fundraising campaign in this thread.

Check it out,
Dave

Bump for more support.

If you haven't listened to a ABR pool radio program yet, check it out. I look forward to listening every week.

There were some technical difficulties last night and the program was delayed, but the latest segment is available now at American Billiard Radio. The title is "Team USA Profile #3 - Sossei." If you want to hear the part of the show where I talk about the BEF and this AZB thread, it starts at the 20:50 point.

Catch you later,
Dave

Good job! Keep the contributions coming for this great cause.
Happy to do it....anything to promote our sport to the youth of America. Beyond learning a great game, there is a lot more to be learned by youth playing competitively....learning sportmanship for example....you'd be surprised how many have no clue about this. Great thing they're doing.

I hope we can get a lot more of the hundreds of AZB users to contribute, even if only a small amount (even $5).

Aren't the junior players (the "future" of pool) worth at least the cost of a mixed drink, the cost of one hour of table time, or a small fraction of your gambling winnings? Or wouldn't gambling losses be better spent on a good cause?

Please help us show the BEF and the pool world that AZB users care.

Concerned at the lack of participation so far,
Dave

PS: I send a big thanks out to each of the people who have contributed so far. The gesture speaks volumes about your character.

Some of us schmucks needed to wait for payday! Spending another $25 of yours..
Thank you for spending more of my money.

Now all of the other "schmucks" out there have no excuse. Please donate something (even a small amount) before you blow it on something you shouldn't anyway (e.g., drinking too much, gambling to much, buying lottery tickets, etc.). Put the money to better use.

The current totals are:

AZB user contributions: $175
Dr. Dave's match (up to $500 maximum): $175

Grand total raised for the BEF and Juniors to date: $350

Who's next?

Regards,
Dave

Dave:

I'm quite concerned that you've been mind-melded into using blue ink. Have you been Aguzin-mented (or augmented) as the case may be? :p

P.S.: you should be in receipt of my $250 donation.
