SVB break shot

Hi,

I'd like to know more about SVB's break shot. How does he achieve this kind of action?
I can't really deduce it from videos or streams.

As far as I know he's got to have a barely (really subtle) elevated cue, but where does he strike the cue ball? Is it top spin or does he draw the cue ball?

I'm talking about this of course: http://youtu.be/IOLH4loShWU

Hope someone could enlighten me :)

The re-action from the cue ball said that Shane struck the cue ball just a tad above center. Maybe even dead center, but I doubt that.

Shane's wrist flick gives him additional cue stick speed, plus striking the cb near the center maximizes the force.

Fran, I took that into slo-mo and there was no "wrist flick". I think you are correct, he did get close to dead center.

Yup. I see what you mean. Probably just a matter of definition.

If you look at .06 and .07 just as his arm moves forward, he releases the cue into his fingers and then grabs. I do that too when I break, and my opinion is that there is a wrist flick there, although it happens at lightening speed.

I guess you can also call it a release and grab.

virgayL...A big key to a better break, imo, is learning to let the weight of the cue and timing create the speed necessary for the break. It's just not about brute force. Keep a loose grip, and back off on your speed, until you can control what the CB does after contact with the rack (hopefully stopping somewhere near the center of the table).
