SVB to Kick Off High Run Attempts

Never too early to do the right thing. Bobby can acknowledge John's historic accomplishment with the reverence and sincerity that such an event deserves and extend a standing invitation without reservation and condition. John then can indicate whether or not he would like to accept that invitation and they could work out the logistics. The current world high-run record holder needn't express interest to get an invitation to any 14.1 high run contest that purports to be serious.

Says (drum roll): you.

Go start up your own event, John, and invite who you like.

HEY! You can''y say any of that might, might not stuff! Trolls will be all over you, lol.

Hi Lou, I know my opinion doesn't matter any. Please invite JS to play or else your event is not valid. No offense intended, I respect your posts and effort in the pool community.

Regards, John

Hi John, thanks for the kind words.

Whether JS gets invited is something this event's committee will consider down the road -- no decision, for or against, on his participation has been made. A couple of years ago JS created his event and did what he did. Now we're interested in seeing what other players can do. After we get through the players who have already said they want a go, we'll look at other players.

All the drama aside, I think focusing on other players for the time being does make sense from a marketing perspective and also to create a story. We all sweated John for close to a year as we kept up on his attempts. We know what he can do when commits himself to 14.1.

So the draw at this point is in seeing what the other big names in pool can do in a similar circumstance. Having John on the table so soon, would sort of feel like more of the same.

Now fast forward 6 months to a year after several champions have been on deck, I think it would be prudent to invite John. Either Johns record is broken and I would like to see him try again in a similar circumstance. Or, no one gets to 626 and it would be neat to see if John can beat event record.

Doing it that way tells a story.

Couple of years I think. He won the DCC 14.1 challenge in 2018, and entered again in 2019 finishing quite high. He was pretty busy through 2019 running 626 though, and then there weren't that many tournaments after COVID hit.
From what I can find, the DCC has had a 14.1 Challenge event starting in 2007 and running through to 2019.

John Schmidt placed in the money for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.

I don't know what happened in 2013 that he didn't place. Was that the year he couldn't play because Xradarx bit him in the kneecap?

How long has it been since JS last competed in a 14.1 tournament?

Lou Figueroa
You should ask him.

Make all the excuses you want, but JS is most likely the best 14.1 US citizen, that's ok, you guys go ahead and find out who #2 is 😏

What I am told he is doing is bad mouthing BC on any and every pool site he can find.

Which is fine and his right but it sure doesn't help his case if he wanted in to BC' event -- an invitational. Right about now i doubt Bobby would invite him to a garage sale.

Lou Figueroa
Bad mouthing or telling the truth? Is John banned here? If not then he certainly isn't using the world's largest pool forum to express his opinion about your boss or your boss's project.

Not sure how you all felt that you should be granted some sort of subordination as a condition of being possibly "invited" to a competition put on by a person who has been prolific in his disparagement of the reigning world record holder.

Perhaps if your boss had been sincere in wanting John to participate then he might have sought to mend that relationship before creating an event that he went out of his way to create rules that seem designed to exclude John Schmidt.

As a PR pro you might have advised your boss against snubbing John but since you have been an active part of the knocking I can see why you wouldn't have.

Well said. And correct in my opinion. But for the record, we have little use for thoughtful, considerate and concise replies around here.

The problem is they won't acknowledge John's record

Roger, looks like you got it. Preferred payment method?
No I think you won. I mean it's not "official" because putting up a list of scores seems to be beyond the technical abilities of the organizer. According to Gerry Shane had a 164 on day one and a 184 on day 2. How about we call it a draw?

anyone who averages more than 31 balls per inning is better than your choice for most likely best. Many #2's.
So the guy with 626 isn't the best? He ISN'T a choice, he's the guy with the highest verifiable run in history, PERIOD!

The problem is that the "drama" is being perpetrated by the promoter. Not as a marketing gimmick but instead likely from a deep sense of jealousy.

I don't think that your concept is wrong - would have been great to have something like that as a plan.

And that's what I get for checking when I'm in the middle of work ;) I'll send a PM.
