I enjoyed a little time in greece, would love to return someday.
First time trying a gyro and I loved them, then when I came back
to the states and tried ordering them in a restaurant, it was a disappointment.

I, too, love my time in Greece...usually go once/twice a year to see my in-laws (my wife's born/raised Athens). We used to live in Thessaloniki, where I attended their Army War College; the food was...let's say I gained about 12 pounds I've never been able to lose. Real gyros are made from stacked slices of meat on a slow rotating skewer; here in the U.S. they always take a short cut and use some kind of Spam on a stick...it's easier but less tasty.
Make friends with a Greek here in the States...get invited to Easter and see how lamb is really cooked. There is NOTHING better than lamb hot off the spit.
