Swapping a collar

I have what may be a silly question. I have 2 shafts for my Farris with nice ringwork and was wondering if it is possible to move the collar from one of them and put it on another shaft like a 314.

Don't know about the answer to your specific question, but you can buy 314 blanks and have a custom maker replicate the ringwork of your Farris shafts for it.

Not without ruining the originals as the only way to do that is bore out the shafts...

I think ,it can be done in "certain situations"....... Someone else to ask would be M.Webb...:)

There are more then a few people here I know of that might could handle it, and If he was able to sqeeze It in, Mike would be a good choice IMO also. If I'm not mistaken, I think he is even authorized to do work on those 314 shafts.

You definatly want someone that is going to take the time and make sure everything is indicated well before cutting into it, because you can't afford to lose too much material from the ringwork OD. There has to be enough left & it needs to be centered well enough on the new shaft, so that it can easily be matched up using the finish without getting it on too thick in the process. The ringwork would more then likely need to be bored, so yes the old shaft will probably be of no or little use afterwards. it is alittle tricky, as there is not really any room for error. Good Luck with It, Greg

some thoughts
tho it may be possible to move the collar to the 314 and
keep the orig shaft playable, I wouldn't advise doing it.

how about having Mr Farris put a matching collar on the 314
or, could he provide a "blank" collar, or even the ringwork

if none of the above is likely, RHN Cusrom Cues, aka Dick Neighbors
is quite the clever ring builder, doubt there is much he couldn't
duplicate
I know he used to match SWs rings for some cue traders

I've done ring swaps before but it was from a broken shaft to a new one...LOLz...however if the original is still in one piece I recommend just getting a good ringwork guru to match what you want...

I appreciate all the responses. I was hoping to avoid the waiting period for Eddie to find the time to "ring" a shaft for me but I guess I will bite the bullet on it. :)

I also think it would be wise to get a predator shaft blank and have a collar matched. I would think leaving the original shafts alone would be good just incase you ever decide to get rid of the cue or if you just decide you don't like the way the predator hits now or later on.... jmo
