Switching joint filler question

I am recovering my olhausen table. It is an oversize 8' table. It was installed 2 years ago and the job was butchered.
I have recovered two tables before and although they were not as nice as the work I see pictures of here, they were better than the work I have been able to get done locally.
I have owned 3 tables each installed new by the dealers (terrible jobs twice - the third job (nice - done by a mechanic who has since retired). I had two of the tables recovered and got bad work both times.
Any way, I am going to take it slow and tackle this job myself. I read everthing I can but have not been able to get the answer to this question. What do you use to remove bees wax from the joint if you want to switch to bondo for joint filler.
I tried scraping followed by light sanding and although most of the wax is gone the seam remains shiny and smooth and I am afraid the bondo will not bond.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pure Acetone or Goof Off on a rag after you have torched the wax and wiped it with towels works pretty well too. Just make sure you open a window with the Goof Off as it will smell up a room pretty well.

Cleaning up wax

A great use for Lacquer thinner! It will get all the wax out without the torch and do a much better job. We learned that out in Chicago this summer, I was dumbfounded by how well it worked!
Rob

ps. what area of the country are you out of?

I am between buffalo and rochester NY. About 45 minutes from either one.
Pavilion NY a very small town. Buffalo or Rochester must have a good table mechanic but I don,t know how to find him and sort him out from the table "installers".
They have not done as well for me as I can do myself if i take my time. When I see pictures of what a well done table can look like and see what I have gotten in the past I am amazed at the difference. Thanks for the suggestion, I think I have some laquer thinner in the shop. By the way if you know a good mechanic in my area let me know. I would gladly have this done by a pro in the future.

OTLB is from your part of the country.... with in a couple of hours I believe.
RKC was just through there not too long ago.
But from the Mechanics directory.....

Personally, I would go back with the wax and forget the Bondo. Wax has worked great for me for many years. Just my preference.
