Szamboti cue price..

joe v is right no one in there right mind would give a deffinate nod one way or another without seeing the cue. there also has been cues made by gus that other unscruplus people have added inlays. in the best interest of all who post here and your self , take it to one of the kens here on the forum- or joe v and mark k- pete tasc -n richard black and barry all quite capable of giving a solid answer!when i posted early i was going to have you pull it and have it checked because you being a new poster and knowing how azers can be brutal i :embarrassed2:was trying to save you some grief. tere are alot of flags. but dont give up hope ( no matter what you have a COOL vintage cue)

Thanks for all the info.I've actually enjoyed the discussion, after all ,whats life without a few mysteries.Very educational lessen in old cues.I'm going to see if my friend can take some more detailed pics of the cue and post them up.So close up of both joints, close up of the points, and close up of the ivory inlays..

Not to give you a hard time, as another poster pointed out there are definately red flags. The joint rings, the shaft nubs, the rounded ivory cards. Not that it isn'ta Gus, but it appears to be unlikely based off the historical record.

Things I cannot see clearly, the points, the ends of the shafts, better view of the brass inserts would help. Barry would be the only way to go for "the" authentification.

Post pics of the individual card inlays. Gus did make a few Gambler cues and there should be enough to see if they match. Use the billiard encyclopedia third edition for reference.

There is a reason no one authenticates from pictures, its just to unreliable. Again, just a few red flags, hey if it is, great, if not, another cue mystery.

Okay thank you for your help and expertise.I will try to get more pics posted.

more pics...

These should be better pictures..I think more were taken too..

I keep looking for updates to this thread. My curiosity is piqued. You received great advice from some of the most knowledgeable people in the business. There are several flags from my limited experience that question its origin. But to my eye, those points are incredible and worthy of follow-up. I hope you send it to Barry for an opinion if the entire cue or selected parts are consistent with his father’s work.

Mike Johnson(Jensen Custom Cues) from Baton Rouge LA. made many cues inspired by Gus. Mike's early cues were not signed nor did they have a logo. Mike's point work is just as good and his cues play great. The wrap and finish were probably done later. AAron Painter from IN. finished a lot of top makers cues really cheap and always painted over the Delrin butt caps just like TAD does. The rubber bumper with the allen screw holding the bumper and butt cap on is the same as Gus, Scruggs, J.W.,Jensen etc. Not Meucci. My guess is Jensen. If this is a Jensen cue it is probably valued under $1,000.00.

I have a Gus gambler and it dont look anything like this cue, there is ZERO chance this is a Gus, If I had to guess there has been 20 Gus owners with over 100 Gus's between them read this thread and nobody thinks its correct. I'll eat a Gus if this cue was built by Gus, Pass the salt...

why is there more interst in looking for a beef than "cue talk" azb? nowadays it aint MMA. this behaviour is ruining AZB. Call it as I see it, no disrespect.:frown:

kindest regards

i am sure i saw this cue bach in LA or Reno when Verl Horn and I were on a bitof a cue buying trip

I have not followed this thread ,but I would recommend sending it to Barry
The story at the time was that someone in LA had built 2 cues from Gus blanks

the name was unknown to me,I almost bought the cue then, and would like to own it now

my thinking is that this is that cue

has it been sent to Barry yet

if i am wrong,my apologies

i wish you the best,i have been in your place before
i bought a couple of cues i thought were Szambotis and Bushkas myself

it is a sad awakening to find out differently
