That my friend is a collectors piece! I was wondering who picked that one up from cornerstone.

I Bought This Cue...

and I wanted to thank Jeff for an excellent deal and an excellent transaction. The cue is more stunning in real life that it is in the pictures, the veneer are much richer in color. Thanks again for the great transcation Jeff.

Cue value

I had a $3000 Jensen once. Skip has two or three in that range. I bought it for $350 from a local poolhall owner. I sold it a few months later for $450. I never could figure out why the cue didn't bring more. I finally let it go.Ate up with ivory, played nice, couldn't sell it for 20%.
That was the last cue of Mikes I ever bought.
Nick :)

I have a flat faced ivory Jensen with a radial pin. Hoppe style. 4 ebony points with 4 veneers. I put a black Teju lizard wrap on it. Now I have $1000 in it. What might it bring ? I think I just got educated  ...Tom

Market is Pretty Soft

I think the market is pretty soft this summer!? Plus, the secondary market on some cues are hotter and colder depending upon the cuemaker.

Haven't owned one of Mike's cues yet  but, always on the look out ;)

My understanding is that he makes an excellent playing cue!

Not worth a thing. I have a Mcdermott Ill trade you for it. :D

Jensen cue

Unfortunately I agree with most of the posters above. I can't quite understand why Mikes cues are so undervalued. Agreed, the market is soft for most non-top name cuemakers, but quality and playability should count for more than just "name". I have a problem with guys like Mike Johnson and Skip Weston (and others) not getting the prices for their product that they deserve simply because of name recognition. It's a shame that someone actually has to die befor they are recognized for their contributions.

I would say $700-800 as long as shafts are reasonable size,12.75+mm. Most all of Mikes 2nd hand cues that I have seen for sale are smallish diamiter shafts. I talked with Mike and he believes the best playing size is 12.75. By the time you change a couple tips and clean it a few times it's 12.5mm. I wonder if that turns some people away or lowers the value a bit? Anyway, the cue I just sold played/hit so well that I'm considering trying another one of Mikes cues with a little heavier shaft. Yes, I'll buy it second hand. thanks-jeff

Cue resale opinion

Wow- I hope you guys are wrong. I've owned a Tascarella,Scruggs, White, Bluegrass, Hercek, Olney and many others. I can Honestly say none of those played "better" than this Jensen. Craftmanship would not be at the bottom of that list either. I am yet to here one negitive thing about Mike's cues- I don't get it.
thanks-jeff
It's nothing negative about Jensen cues, it's the way the cue market works. There are a few cue makers who are in the elite or top group whose cues bring good prices, but if your cue wasn't made by a cue maker in that group you won't like the price that you can sell your cue for. What you paid for your cue or what the cue makers retail new price is won't change the price you get on the secondary market. Cue sales are usually slow during the summer also.

I have two of Mike's cues - one SS joint, one flat-faced radial pin. The flat face has 13mm shafts and hits as solidly as any cue I've ever played with. The SS joint has skinnier shafts throughout the length but still plays great.

He does prefer 12.75 but will make you a stiff shaft if desired.

Did you request a different shaft or taper?
