Have a friend who has followed the fight game for eons. He said 'business' was involved all the way. Liston was owned for yrs by Frankie Carbo who ran the fight-fixing biz for the Lucchese's. Fight two was 'funny' also with all that 'fantom punch' nonsense.I would have bet it all on Liston too. Ali was involved in some strange fights in his career including that one. The reason I posted though was that I was reminded of a fighter who took a match as a last minute replacement. When asked what he thought his chances were he said he was selling advertising space on the soles of his shoes! He was also predicting how many rounds he would go.
