Table cleaning - shark steam? Any thoughts

Would it be a terrible idea to use my shark steamer on my table. I am getting a lot of chalk build up and the table is slowing down. I broom it with care as I should and wipe it with microfiber cloth on occasion but I am not getting the results I'd like.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

If you have waxed seams def not. If you dont have wax, it may work but I would test it on some scrap cloth first. Personally a damp micorfiber cloth works fine for me.

I hit mine with the shop vac with the bristle brush attachment then a warm damp micro fiber towel

I wouldn't use a steamer for fear of stretching the cloth. I use a Oreck upright vacuum and a B&D handheld for under the rails. The Oreck is a full size, lightweight model. This method has served me well for years and is gentle on the cloth for long life.

Regular clening

I have found a regular cleaning helps the cloth. I use a small and not to powerful hand held vacuum with a short flexible tube and 3 different attachments.

After that I take a dry micro fleece towel and wipe the cloth down in a circular motion.

Then a camel hair brush going in the same direction length ways on the table.

Every couple of months I put a couple gallons of hot water in a bucket with a cap full of "woolite" and a micro fleece towel. I wring all the water out of the towel and wipe the table cloth down, taking care to avoid the seems.

My cloth is Simonis Tournament Blue 860 HR and I really like it. Most of what I know about table cloth cleaning was gleamed from "Real King Cobra".

I also keep my balls and rack clean and constantly clean the cue ball as most of the chalk that lands on the table gets there when the tip contacts the cue ball.

I use Magic Chalk. I find I don't need as much as other chalks for my tip and believe it keeps my table cleaner because of that.

If you feel your cloth has a build up of chalk I suggest not trying to remove it all at once, rather give it a few deep cleanings and then regular maintenance. My 2 cents.

I beleve it has been dicussed here many times, significant moisture and rotating bristles are....

Simonicide.

Golden Rules (abbreviated):

1) keep the table covered whenever not played on or displaying it as a work of art (CJH knows what I'm talking about here :-)

2) regular care and maintenance is the key. Don't vacuum it when it is in obvious need.

3) vacuum attachment has NO rotating brushes and doesn't need to suck the cloth off the table to be effective

4) only use spray on type cleaners or wet/damp cotton/microfiber towels when absolutely necessary - like when your friend Tony grinds his off-color chalk onto his decade old cue tip and then with a shitty poke-stroke, deposits a nasty line of blue on your mocha Simonis....vacuuming and brushing won't remove that baby.

5) don't forget the pockets. Wipe and vacuum those every time you do the cloth.

How clean do you guys need your table ? Lol I brush mine then have a spray bottle so I can make a white cotton T damp. Stand at the end of the table and wipe toward myself. Comes out pretty good.

I have been using the Simonis X-1 brush exclusively since I got my table 6 months ago with Simonis 860 HR. It is designed to only get the chalk up, but it also pills up any small stuff it doesn't suck in. I then use a small hand-vac without a bristle attachment to pick up any other small pieces of grit or hair. I tried using some quick clean on it as a test recently, and it did not pick up any chalk, so I can only assume that it is doing a rather thorough job.

Don't you mean "don't vacuum it only when it is in obvious need" or "don't wait to vacuum it until it is in obvious need"?

Why do you say this? What damage do you think regular use of a damp microfibre cloth does? I personally use it every time I vacuum (which is probably every 15-20 hours of play) and see no ill effects 2 years in.
