Table light dilemma

I can't be the first one to run into this "problem." I've got my eBay GCI set up in my half-finished garage. The ceiling is 9 feet high. How do I get the light attached over the table? Do I have to stand on the table? Short of rigging up some scaffolding I don't see what else to do.

Hate to do anything that could throw it off level ... that took some 4 hours of work by a pro. Because of my "carpentry," that is.

If you have 2 step ladders, you are in business. I had to change lighting fixtures - I put a ladder on either side of the table, then laid 2 x 4's between the ladders, over the table as a makeshift scaffold. Then stood on the 2 x 4's instead of the table. I also was afraid to stand on the table. Good luck

What my electrician did was put a ladder at the end of the table on the floor and place a hook centered best he could with a plumb bob. Then do the same thing on the other end. Then we used chains and hung the light directly centered best we could lengthwise over the table. It does not have to be EXACT...but close is good enough in this case I think.

Shorty

Good ideas, thanks. Willie, guess I'll try to borrow my neighbor's step ladder, then. Hell, I've got about an acre's worth of 2X4s and 2X6s stacked up in there ... need to frame 3 walls in a 23X23 room. In fact, I think I should get to be called splinterhands about now. :D

I just did this in my new house a couple months ago.

I used two Saw horses, one next to each side pocket, and strung 4 8' 2x6's across the top of the table to build a work platform suspended above the play surface. Lay down a sheet or your table cover to protect the felt from any sheet rock particals and mount your light. This gives you a good solid work platform to work from and get it centered properly.

Good Luck.

Sawhorses, d'oh! Funny how your common sense goes to hell when you've got 50 things you need to get done all at once.

I'm also racking my brains over the heating situation (fortunately I don't need AC), windows, working a wall around a garage door track, my novel ceiling plan ... not to mention bar and bar stools ... all the while wasting my time trolling around eBay checking out silly crap like neon beer signs, posters, mini refrigerators. And considering all the people likely to make the trek to this remote mountaintop, I'll probably need a backdrop of imaginary friends and a soundtrack, like Rupert Pupkin in "The King of Comedy." :D
