I am preparing to take down my old twin-ballast light fixtures and go with something newer (and lighter). What type of lights do you have above your tables, and are you happy with them?
Are you in a bar or pool hall? Are you guys playing serious pool there or just ball bangers? Keep in mind that Flourescent lights cast the least amount of shadows.
i went with 6 cannister lights installed into my ceiling with 75 watt flood lite bulbs in them. Best light ive ever played under. I read online for a full sized table you want to try and get at least 400 watts of light out put.
If you do decide to go with the shades, use screw in florescent bulbs so that you continue to save on electricity. You will be surprised how much more you pay if you opt for incandescent.
I guess it also depends on how many tables you have. Still worth doing to save money.
I have 27 tables...we went from T-12... 6 ft bulbs to T-8 ...4 ft ..we stagger the new T-8's to have two on each end...that is on the larger shades for my 10 big tables...on my 16 bar tables we replaced 4 - 4 ft
f-32 tubes to one 4ft t-8 with a reflector fixture... I had a lighting contractor with a candle power reader help us with what would be the most cost saving and best light .....he told me and showed me the candle power Differance .....I did not replace all at once but as bulbs and ballist went bad...didnt want to give up what I already had invested. Iwas also told that the gas &electric company would help any questions you might have and they have that candle power meter...Terry
Over my 9 ft table I have a home built light that looks something like a Diamond light. In it are 6 flourescent bulbs, 8 ft long, and the inside width of the fixture is 38".
The fixtures have electronic ballasts.... no hummmmmmmm. I used the diffusers that have little square holes that mirror the light. It is hung with the bulbs 40" above the cloth. There are no shadows here!
Prior to this light I had a fixture that had 4 incandescent 100 watt bulbs with reflecting shades on a bar... the usual pool table light. It was, I guess, ok.... but just ok. I think this new light is as good as it gets.
