Every mechanic out here is snooker and UK pool oriented, I want to set up a competition spec 9-ball table :(

Can't find anyone that knows what K-66, Simonis 860 or Granito Basalt is.

I have found a used 9 foot brunswick, but I don't trust the dealer to set it up as he doesn't even know what model it is.

If you know anyone in Australia who knows their way around a US style table, especially in Sydney please let me know.

Cheers!

Table Mech in Sydney

If you can find out what model table it is Brunswick will e-mail the installation instructions to you. That would be a good start. Like they say, if you want something done right, do it yourself! There is a wealth of information here and on the net. With a little patience and information you might be able to do it yourself if you can't can find anyone. Might be the start of a good part time occupation. Good luck.

You could ask around for Greg Jenkins in Sydney. He is the resident 9-ball expert. If he can't help you, he might be able to put you onto someone.

Good Luck.

good idea...

Good suggestion > Greg Jenkins - Sydney
And maybe get hold of Edward Charlton up in Newcastle at his billiard supply...I don't know if he plays much anymore but his wife plays "Yankee" pool and goes down to Melbourne sometimes to play at "Cue Sportz".

*note* I plan on coming down to OZ about November for the snooker tourney usually held at the Brunswick Club (MEL) and if you still need help, I could swing by on my way to Perth...I have worked on over 200 tables in 30 years...
(pool /snooker /and 3 cushion tables)

Where did you get the table? from who?

Thanks for all the replies!

I will definately ask around for Greg Jenkins, I think I may have met him before, have a feeling he runs a room in Penrith which is about an hours drive away, might go for a trip on the weekend.

I haven't actually purchased the brunswick table yet, as the dealer has a contact in Orange (probably 8 hours drive) where the table actually is and all he can tell me is its a 40 year old brunswick, no models or any more info than that. It seems rather dodgy and I don't think I will go through with it.

If worse comes to worse, I have found a table mech in Brisbane who has done about 15 9 ball tables and was trained by a "9 ball expert in Japan", might be able to fly him down for the day to set it up and his company can import tables from the states. He said he knows how to handle the napless cloth. Will be scarry to see what $$$ he is expecting. So thanks for all the offers of help, but I think I might be okay now (fingures crossed).

Cheers!

table mech

Jim Bonner in Perth, used to run the Pot Black rooms (they all have at least one "yankee" table).. been in the business for many years ... traveled around Australia and has lotsa knowledge also..easy to track down (still gives lessons at "LA Q" in Vic park, I think)... very good player to practice with when he gets it set up!
*another note* I may be shipping a couple of Diamonds to Melbourne this fall to a friends pool room..not sure yet...probably no big deal to add a couple if needed.
