It seems most on here prefer the Diamond and Gold Crowns when it comes to purchasing a table. What do most of you guys think of the Olhausen Pro's? The reason I ask is because our local pool hall just went out of business after only 8 months.  The owner has put all of his tables up for sale. He wants 3000 for the 7 footers and 3400 for the 9 footers. Does this seem a bit high?? I know they are only 8 months old but most are in need of new felt. As always your help is appreciated.

I have seen some real nice GC and Diamonds for that price on ebay, just depends on your location. I believe Brunswick and Diamond are better for resale, just depends on your preference.

$3400 for an 8-month old olhausen pro doesn't seem too bad a price. Though, does that price include delivery and setup?

Here is my recent table purchasing story. I actually ordered a brand new 9-ft Olhausen professional from a local retailer for about $4300. That price included set up and delivery.

However, I literally was unable to sleep well that night of the purchase. I genuinely had my heart set on a Diamond Professional, but I felt by purchasing an Olhausen I would save lots of money. Although I think the Olhausen is a great table, I was bothered by the all-black looks of the table and the way the pockets aren't flush with the fails. Also, the pockets tend to spit out some hard-hit shots down the rail.

Therefore the very next morning, I cancelled my Olhausen purchase and ordered a Diamond Professional. The Diamond table itself (with Dymondwood rails) came to only a couple hundred dollars more than the Olhausen, but setup and delivery added much more to the overall price.

I got my Diamond Pro setup and delivered last week, only a week and a half after finalizing the purchase over the phone (I was lucky...the lead time on the Olhausen delivery would have been 4-6 weeks). So now I play on my brand new table every chance my wife and my two-year old daughter allow. Though the Diamond ended being more expensive overall than the Olhausen, I have no regrets with the purchase.

Anyway, take my story for what it's worth. If you're not bothered by the looks, then $3400 for a slightly old Olhausen pro including setup and delivery would be a decent price. Though, I'd try to haggle it down to $3k with setup/delivery.

I bought a like new Olhasuen Pro for $1700.00 a couple of years back. I did not like the construction of that table compared to the GC's I had. I sold it and bought a nice GCI for $1500. I am having that table fixed up and set up in my garage.

I would recomend that you look for a Diamond or GC. They are built a little sturdier than the Olhausen. And, the prices for used GC's is really good right now.

See this guy wants the 3400 and that does NOT include delivery or setup. So additionally i guess id have to buy new cloth. According to him the setup is very easy. I know nothing of pool table assembly though. Although the tables are nice I think im gonna have to pass.

Way overpriced.
Wait for the next WPBA event near SD and you can get one a thousand less.
They come with very generous pockets. You will need to get them shimmed.

Know what I wish?

I wish all posters would put their location, City and State, or at least State, in their personal info profile. So many subjects come up that are location
significant, and it helps a great deal if we know where in the hell you are!

To me it comes down to 3 things:

1.) First and foremost - do you play competitively? If so, try to match your home table as closely as possible to where ever you gamble/tourny the most. If you don't play competitively, then it is just style and personal preference.

2.) Almost any table can be made to play perfectly if you budget for and hire a top quality table mechanic. Don't skimp here - trust me. I have set tables up, and they sucked. I have hired the cheap guy out of the classifieds, and that was a NIGHTMARE. Having a top quality installer makes all the difference in the world. Check the mechanics forum here.

3.) Make sure you like the table well enough to look at it every day and if you are married, make sure she likes it too and it fits in with whatever room you put it in. Nobody needs a wife who is irritated 200 times a day when she looks at the table you play on twice per week. See number 1.

If you like the olhausen, then make the guy a firm offer of 2500 for one of them. Tell him it is the best you can do and if he can't sell them for 3400 to give you a call when/if he is ready to deal. Don't be a jerk, just let him know that 2500 is every last dime you have to your name. That would leave you ~900 to hire a good mechanic to set it up for you. FWIW I played on olhausen 'furniture' style tables all through college, and they played just fine.

Just my .02
