Just about everyone who is a better than average player who I have spoken with claims that a carom table that plays short is not prefered. Does that mean that if a table plays 5% to 10% longer than the average table with fairly new felt and good cushions and is consistent is much better table? I have never heard a player complain if a table plays too long! Can a table play too long with good felt and cushions?--- Any comments?

Interesting notion. However, what does it truly mean to say that a table that plays 10% longer? For me, it's really about how the ball reacts off the rail (and table bed) at various angles of attack, speed, intensities of sidespin and nature of roll.

To describe a table as 'Too long' or 'too short' begs for some kind of reference table - which, in actuality, does not exist. I personally prefer a table that gives you the freedom to manipulate speed and spin to create different angles. I think consistency is more important than longness or shortness and I don't mind playing on either sticky or slippery environments - so long as they are controllable and predictable.

Dan...may I take your question and reword it to what I find amongst many players?

" I have never heard a player not complain if a table plays too long or too short or too just right! "

Well, to my knowledge very few tables play perfect, so some sort of adjustment is always needed when you are playing...
