Table Size at Professional Tournaments

Maybe someone has more insight on this topic than I do. I understand that if a tournament is being held in a pre-existing establishment, there aren't a lot of options as far as which what size tables will be used. However, does anyone know what's up with all of these professional tournaments being played in convention centers on 7' tables? The tables have to be setup and broken down before and after the tournament, so is there an overwhelming reason that a lot of professional tournaments are being played on 7' tables?

It is a lot cheaper to set up 30, 50, 200 7 foot tables, than 9 foot. Less space required. The league national finals are pretty much all on 7 footers. The USBTC is a bar table tourney by name. But otherwise I'd say it is primarily a cost issue.

Ask any table mechanic how much easy it is to move 7' tables and set them up versus 9' tables.
The difference in the amount of time & labor required to set up for a tournament is vastly different.

what would happen if they had a bar-table tournament that moved onto 1 or 2 big tables for the final rounds?

would the players ever go for a change-up like that?

😱😱😱😱

All I know is I'll never pay one cent to watch someone play on a 7' table...not buying a ticket, a stream or a dvd, and if the event is free I won't pay for the gas money and parking to get there. I'm also not going to pay to watch pro baseball at the local playground, or pro basketball in my driveway.

Sheesh...I can't believe this is even a thing.

If Bar boxes are so easy then drain your bank account, pack the cues and hit the road. Guaranteed that you get bust within a week! Many of the modern day legends, have ended up busted and broke.

Yup-

Bar-tables are very popular in the US for purely economical reasons. Room owners finally figured out that they can make a lot more money with more, and smaller, tables & the tables themselves are a lot cheaper and easier to set up and maintain.

It's all there is to it.

Tends to be the overall concensus.

Actually, that would be as "cool as shit" to have some pro's playing in a pick up game, on your driveway, or playing baseball in the park with your friends :)

What does my skill level have ANYTHING to do with this? I can't ski worth a damn, but that doesn't mean I'm going to watch Olympic athletes go down the kiddie hill, and then maybe hop over a speed bump at the end. Truthfully, I can't ski down a kiddie hill and hop over anything, but I still have zero interest in watching it.

Why not just play chess or soccer or something for the final round? I don't think anyone would go for that. Totally different game.
