I would like some comments on practicing on a larger table then playing competition on a bar box. Does it hurt or help your game? I have always practiced on a valley bar box but just got an 8" olhausen and feel like I have never played the game before. Im sure its just a matter of time and practice.

Practice on both... first on the larger table and then on the smaller table just before the event.

Practice on a large table with tight pockets will improve your precision.

Practice on a bar box will make you aware of the contition of the rails, and balls, and the speed of the cloth.

Both are required to play at the top of your game.

In my experience since the area Im at only has 8 foot bar tables, it takes me a long time to get used to playing on a 9 foot table. I do feel the same way that you do playin on a larger sized table, sorta forgot how to move the ball around and get lost on positioning the cue. Now I am saying playing, not practicing which is two different things in my opinion.

As far as practicing, I always seem to play better on the bar tables every time I get to spend some time on a 9 foot table practicing long cut shots. My banking usually doesnt change that much but I find myself hitting the cue ball a lot slower "pocket speed" after playing on a nice table because I am always hitting the ball hard because of the "rolls" most bar tables have.

The key is to just practice like you said, not playing, practice and there is a ton of information on that in these forums.

good luck and dont get discouraged.
