Just wondering if I am out-of-touch with what is required for table care.

In my day, we brushed the table and if needed, a damp ( nearly dry ) rag wipe to pick up chalk dust.

I was recently informed by a local know it all that I have it all wrong and that he has it on good authority that I should have the brushes thrown away and only use a "dust buster" portable vaccuum on the tables.

I'm calling BS.

What does the concensus think?

Thanks.

I use a shop-vac with the attachment that doesn't allow a perfect suction/seal,,,otherwise the cloth may stretch !!,,,if the cloth does stretch, a steam iron at the proper setting shrinks it right back,,,PLUS the steam iron brings back the cloth color !,,,(DON'T use an iron if the cloth has any sort of backing),,,works for me,,,,,jflan

or.....if your table mechanic used beeswax to fill the seams.

Adios,

Non-simonis

Our house used to vacuum and the tables would play slower as it "pulls" the nap upwards.

Simonis 860, but he's using a dust buster with a beater brush!

Mr Wilson, how do his tables look and play? I use a vacume with out the spinning brush to get the chulk from under the cloth. Maybe 4 times a year. I use Quick Clean from David Hodges about once a week.

The tables are in a bar that I play out of. Owner had them re covered 2 weeks ago.

I came in to practice and it looked like someone had a picnic on the table, there were all sorts of crumbs everywhere.

When I couldn't find the brushes, you heard the story I got.

Tables play great though :)

My boss uses a vaccum but that idea of a steam iron sound like a nice one, I think I am gonna try it out...

The poolroom I worked in wiped the simonis with a damp cloth, only vaccuumed under the rails and only used a brush on the felt.

You can vacume the cloth, but you don't really wanna use something with a beater bar. You can take the rubberband off the beater bar on some of those hand held vacs. Or like the guy said above a shop vac. The beater bar isn't real good for the cloth. But brushing the table should do fine unless you use a ton a that bad white crap! lol

I spoke to a room owner from Ohio I think that also owned a dry cleaning business. He said he steam irons his tables every night, and the water is very benificial to wool cloth, making it last longer and getting rid of marks. Since then I wipe my table with a damp cloth, and it seems to work well. I've been thinking about trying a paint roller or something like that so I don't pull on the cloth and stretch it while trying to wipe it off.

He also said it was good for the slate. I don't really know.

I first vacuum my table with a handheld vacuum which has a small hose and "crevice tool" which I use to vacuum under the cushions.

Then I brush it with a handheld brush.

Then I wipe down the entire table with a damp rag - starting with the rails to get hand marks off, then cushions, then table surface.

Seems to work for me...

Everybody has their own ideas on what is best, but I really don't think using an Iron on the cloth is good at all! Like the guy said above if they used bee's wax ya gonna have a problem. Vacuming is good enough.

i agree. i use a dustbuster, then a damp lint free rag, then a modified lint roller for my 860 simonis. the brush just grinds it into/under the cloth.
