We get lots of threads on AZ complaining about industry rip-offs. In my experience, those are rare, and mostly occur in pool halls.
Here's a story about a cool guy who doesn't believe in rip-offs:
I've bought a couple tables and several cues from my retailer, who's become something of a pal. My current table was a year old and out of true. Humidity had affected the cloth.
I scheduled a time for his mechanics; they came today. First they removed the rails, next the cloth, put new paraffin in the seams (using a new method involving Brunswick glue and business cards (I know, sounds weird but these guys knew what they were doing).
They re-leveled the table and left it playing perfectly.
When I asked for the check, they said it was on the house.
I'm intending to send them a tip. What's appropriate?
