Just a quick question was wondering if there are any Diamond tables in Tucson? If so where?

There are none that I can think of. The main rooms there are Main Street Billiards, Shooters and I forget the other. I live in Phoenix and don't get there that often.

Last I heard there were no halls with Diamonds. They have them at Alexander's in Phoenix, and a ton of good players there.

Main Street billiards, Pockets and Clicks. No shooters in Tucson. Fox and Hound has some 8 foot Diamond buckets. Greg Sullivan told me at the BCA they were made according to the specs of the people buying them. Greg said he doesn't consider them real Diamonds.

The only public place in town that has diamonds is the Fox and Hound, which has a bunch of oversize 8 footers, and one 9 footer. As stated, the pockets are larger than standard diamonds. I know of three players that have very nice diamonds in their homes. If you ask real nice, or gamble with them, one of them may let you play at their house.

PM me if you want to play while you're in town. I'll be out of the country for 10 days early July, but other than that I'll probably be at the poolhall a lot.

Tucson has Main St. with gold crowns, some are better than others. Pockets tables are in good shape, also gold crowns and the corners have been updated to gc3's. Click's has mostly 8ft. Gandys and I believe 2 9ft. GC's. The GC's have been shimmed for 1 pocket players. Fox and Hound I have never been in, I live on far east side and it is on northwest.
I am off work the week of July 21-25 and I'll play if ya want. E-mail me at tucson9ball@cox.net

My poolhall of choice is Click's, mainly because of the 1-pocket action, and it's central location. They have 3 shimmed 9' gold crowns, 1 9' gandy with buckets, 4 barboxes, and a bunch of gandy 8'ers. Everything is very clean and well maintained, but it's a little more expensive than other places in town.

Pockets is usually my second choice, and it's east of central Tucson. The equipment is in good shape, the food is very good, and the prices are very reasonable. They have a couple billiard tables, a few bar boxes, but mostly 9'ers. They also have a nice pro shop.

Main Street has tons of tables, mostly 9' GC's, but they all have big pockets, and only a few of the tables play decent. They have decent food, cheap tourneys almost every day, and the prices are pretty good too. They are located on the far east side of town.

There is also the Fox and Hound NW of town, which has already been discussed, or if you don't mind no alcohol and no gambling, there's the UofA rec center on the college campus, that has a bunch of well maintained 9'ers, and even a 9' snooker table.

Tucson

Hey, I just visited Tucson a couple of weeks ago and got to play just a little. A couple people said they'd meet up and play but my schedule ended up being too tight to coordinate anything. I stopped by Main St. and hit some. Honestly, it was a nice big place but the tables sucked. I would definitely check out the other places. But the main concensus is to go to Pheonix (only an hour drive) and play at Kolbys. Have fun.. you're just in time for the ridiculous desert heat! =o]

Oh, forgot it will be hotter than hell by then. Forget Main St. they dont have A/C. Pockets is nice and cool or Clicks.
Phoenix is a 2hr. drive by the way, but Kolby's is real nice. I was there this weekend and A/C is good and You can stay at Quality Inn right across the parking lot.

If you're still in Tucson, you can PM me for a time to meet up at Pockets if you want someone to shoot around with while you're in town!

If you are going to make the trip to Phoenix and were looking for Diamonds, there is only 1 place. Alexanders has 7 barbox's and 1 - 9 footer. All is very good shape and there is always some action in there.

Metro sports is right around the corner and they have 10 GC's and 9 valley's. Good tourneys every day of the week depending on what they rate you.

Troy's Billiards

Wasnt there a room there in the 80's called Troy Billiards?
Wow, you have a good memory. Troys used to be on Speedway, then moved lil south to Wilmot Rd. It was sold and became Pockets Billiards today. The counter next to the bar still has the chess(or checker boards) and backgammon.
If my memory serves me, Old man Troy, was a master level chess player and had books about how to play. I believe he passed away.

It was on Speedway when I was there, I played there in july 86 I was on the road, I was there only 2 nights, I got beat there. There were permant chess and bakgammon boards by the rail that were well worn. I heard Mr. Troy was a strong chess player, he wasnt there either night I was. I was 20 years old, I played some 18 year old guy who beat me both nights, I didnt play for much, I needed the 7. I liked that room it had a good vibe and charcter, I knew it was on speedway when I made my last post I just want 100% on the name I was 98%, i just forgot to mention the road, I have a good memory-sometimes i wish I didnt. i dont remember his name, he looked like the main guy on entoruge.

Sound like ya probably ran across Tony. He was a regular at that time and played pretty good. He still lives around town but doesn't play any more.
