Tad cue finish

Tad's finish has never been really high quality, if I am not mistaken it is a water-based lacquer and it's rather thin. So it yellow quickly, doesn't protect the wood very well and flakes rather easily compared to some of the other urethane/other finishes.

But the cues are damn pretty and I love them, good/bad/ugly finish who cares?

I actually just purchased a brand new TAD from J & J (Plain Jane model with phenolic joint) that was just finished by Tad about 2 weeks ago.

The finish on it is immaculate. There are absolutely no flaws and I cannot feel any of the ringwork on the cue. Completely smooth from top to bottom. The linen wrap is also immaculate... no gapping and it is pressed firm.

But I will agree with the earlier post that the finish seems a bit thin... so only time will tell as to how it will wear with use.

All that being said, the hit is unlike any other cue I've owned or hit with... phenomenal!!!

Tad is not a big fan of the auto finishes because he claims it is too difficult to refinish, as he has to sand it all down. Whereas with the lacquer finish, it is easier to refinish. Well, that was the reasoning he gave me.
 
Does the newer Tad cues as of 2012-2014 uses the same finishing method? Because several players played old tad, they all ended up losing all the finishing..
