TAD cue Question

That is sad but the man is up there in age.
But, he still has HUNDREDS of buttsleeves alreay made.
Thousands of shafts and wood stored.
Tad still cuts the shaft in his secret room I am told.
Tad's logo will change when his son takes over, I am told by a family friend.
Can you still place an order with Tad? If so what is his wait time like? I have always wanted a TK-80 or a true Harvey Martin style Tad with the big pin and Micarta joint (Can you even order these models anymore?)... I wonder if I should order one before it's too late...

Thanks,
-Andy

Note these prices im giving would be for new unused cues.

Plain jane $1800 - $2000

Inlayed butt sleeve plain front - $2500

4 point hoppe - $3000

4 pont with inlay - $4000 and up

8 pointers - $5000 and up

although these are for new ones you can find used ones or from other dealers for a couple of hundreds less

Hi Zirroe,

Thanks. Do you know any reputable dealers to refer?

Tad cue

Tad Kohara cues play well, are constructed very well, and the overall resaleability is above average. Bumbay3 check your pm's

Hi Zirroe,

I exchanged emails today with a Guy who said he had the above listed new TADs for the prices in red. His prices are a little higher than what you quoted above.

Who is your dealer or distributor?

The prices I listed were just estimates theyre not exact. Tad only has two official dealers in the U.S. it's J&J and in Japan Lucky from ilovecues.com other than that other dealers have to receive them from other sources which is why the prices are higher.

If you call Tad he will send you to J&J, the only way you can get an order through him is if you know him, I believe he has a strict deal with J&J which is why he sends all of his U.S. customers through them.

I got mine throught Troy

I got some pretty good pricing and excellent service from Troy here on AZ.

I think his name here is KOINKID or something like that.

He is on par with BAMA and the other guys here that are top notch, no-worry, great folks.

The cue on my Aviator is from him and I have just got an old JW from him and had absolutely no problems.

Let me know if I can help.

There was a pretty good deal on ebay maybe 1 -2 months ago on a 4 point PH Tad.

If you are seriously looking I would at least talk to Troy. If just converstation well,,,,

Good luck,

ken

Thanks Ken,

Troy, if you are out there send me a PM about your TAD cues.

Just on the fact that Tad's son may be doing most of the work. I think if we look at most cuemakers our there today and of yesteryear, for example Pete Tascallea I think works with his son or Burton Spain who worked with Joel Herek , please read...

"Joel Hercek is the cue maker that was precepted by Burton Spain, the famous blank maker and cue maker. In the early 1990s, the two worked together so that Joel could learn the trade and take over the business. It is no surprise that Joel makes one of the most sought after cues on the market today. Ordering a cue from Joel means waiting seven years before your name makes it to the top of his list of waiting customers."

Who can say if Fred Korhara (Tads son) does not do just a good a job if not better than his genius father, for a start he would be using exactly the same cue making techniques that his father taught him and the same machinery and specifications. By the sounds of this thread he is using materials that his father prepared years ago.

People who may be turned off purchasing a Tad cue because the old man is no longer longer 100% responsible for all of the work should maybe think about these factors.

I am no expert, this is just my opinion..

Thanks
