TAD Harvey Martin?

This has always been one of my favorite PJ’s with a great pedigree, if it is a TAD. I am 99% sure, but I’d like to get some other eyes on the cue.

The guy I bought it from said it was donated and won from an Eagles Lodge Pool Tournament in 1992 and wasn’t used too much after that. He said it was a used cue when it was donated.

Aluminum 3/8x 10 pin, 1 1/4” long

Butt, 430 grams, 27 13/16” long
Micarta Joint
Delrin Butt cap
.853
1.095 at wrap
1.26 at bottom of wrap
1.28 at buttcap

Shaft is 29 1/16” long
Micarta ferrule that is 7/16” long
4.1oz

I have no idea, but I like it!
Just a guess, but I bet it plays really nicely.

I would say not a Tad. He did one inch ferrules. Also, this buttplate does not look like his with this style of cue. Also, his wraps did not leave such a space at the forearm and buttsleeve. Nice cue overall, but I think not a Tad. Definitely not a Martin.

With regard to the ferrule, the guy I bought it from said it was his friends, who had passed, and he was a billiard player. That might take into account the short ferrule.

I agree with you on the butt cap length, though while scouting the web for Tad/Harvey Martin cues, I noticed a few different butt lengths and joint lengths. The catalog pic has a short joint and buttcap, but other cues of the same model that have sold on AZ in the past have a longer joint and buttcap.

When I bought it, I was in the mindset that it was a Tad, Schrager or Martin.

Whoever built it was aware that Martin used an aluminum 3/8x10 pin.

my best guess is Bert Schrager, very much like his work.
Bingo! Early on, Schrager made quite a few similar looking cues. I bought one for $125 and played with it for a few years. Definitely not a Tad.
Tim Padgett made a few like that as well.

Pretty similar.

I know I’m bring up an older thread of mine, but when I took it to the pool hall, it played “meh” at best. The tip was way to soft. I ended up putting a hard on it and it plays fantastic. It juices the ball so much, tons of English on hand, and it is light and fat. Just an exceptional cue. I can see me playing with this cue when I’m in my 70’s.
