TAD or Southwest

Hi,
I am presently in the position of purchasing either a 1989 TAD players cue (phenolic joint 3/8x10) or a 1990 Southwest, sadly... not both. I have played with a 1999 southwest and liked the hit. I have not played with a TAD before, but liked the looks of it. I hve heard great things about TAD's playability. I need some advise on which cue should I go with. My main concern here is playability. Thanks for any input.

the first major cue purchase for me was a tad with windows and MOP notched diamonds. it had a dead hit,,,,,later confirmed by an excellent player(what did i know back then)

i have played three others since. two i owned, and one i tried from a close friend of tad's. to qualify,,,,the two others i owned were very old and not what i would call "tads worthy of consideration".

i didn't like ANY of them. and yet, like you, i've only heard great things about tad's hit, and from people whose opinion i trust. i am not so convinced and would try any tad before purchasing one. if i were you i wouldn't lay out all that cash for a ANY cue unless i tried it first anyway. on the pro side, tad cues have very good resale value, and at the very least, you could flip it in japan and make your money back +.

If I was faced with the same choice I'd go for the South West provided the cue is unaltered and you like the specs. I like the fact that the TAD is flat-faced as opposed to the piloted steel joint with the famous TAD "tink."

I owned a new South West briefly in 1983 but couldn't appreciate a stiff hitting cue at the time. When I returned to the game in 2001 I wondered why people were so ga-ga about South West cues. I thought they were nuts. In January I bought a new one and as soon as I hit a few balls with it I understood why players liked them.
