Anyone have a source for Taig accessories. As you all know, Taig will not sell any accessories that conflict with their "proprietary" agreement with the Cue Man. Specifically, larger bore spool box (1 1/8"), longer slide about 36" to 42", and maybe a sliding head and motor mount. If cost ends up close to one already built, I will pass. Not worth $1000++ for what I want to do, but I want something fairly accurate.

but I only do 5-6 tips a week, 1 ferrule every 6 mos. and reface a cue once or twice a year. I have access to a buddy's machine shop and his Cincinnati lathe, but I hate to bother him although he does not seem to mind.
I have no need for my own machine except for the fun of tinkering and convenience if it is cheap enough.

I do about the same amount of work. I have the midsize hightower lathe and believe it is justified for even small amounts of jobs. I also have a 12x36 metal lathe and haven't used it once since I got the hightower a couple years ago.
Other cheap options are the mini metal lathes for about 400. They require your time and skill to modify them to work well with cues.
There is also an ebay seller selling modified taig lathes for cue repair for about 600. He modifies them and then sells them I believe.
The bottom line is you can't get into doing cue repairs without money for machines ready to go, or the time and skill, and money, to modify non-specific cue machines.
My personal opinion is its worth the extra cash buying something ready to go out of the box.

If you only do tips/ferrules - you could use a cheap chinese lathe with a big enough hole through the chuck. Do a search and you would see colleagues here which use them on the road or just for tips in their shops to free up their main lathe.
For cleaning shafts I got a dead cheap wood lathe which I only use for this.
If you then add the cost for these two items you could most likely buy one of Chris's smaller setups and have everything in one machine. If I was in the US I would not even think about it, but as mentioned in many posts by me, S&H over here is the reason why a DeLux is not in my shop.
After all, if you charge you're customers for tip changes, then you would have it payed after a certain time. Personally I do not have 6 tips changes every week, but if I had I would be a happy man
