So, for quite a while now, I've been playing with my travel cue -- a John Davis ebony blank finished by PDF and it has served me well. But now, with nothing but the DCC coming up, and without the need to check a cue with an airline, it is time to take one of the girls, (one of my two Ginas), out for a spin.

The lady I am planning on using is the Gina Gail gave me for our 10th wedding anniversary. It's a re-creation of a cue I owned and let slip through my fingers long ago.

Most of you know the story. Anywhos, we're going.

Do you have any trouble switching between them? I wish I had a table at home so I could play more often with the couple cues I keep tucked away that aren’t my daily player.

I have a bit of trouble switching between cues, mostly because of different balance points, so I try to keep switching to a minimum and will play with one cue for months and even years at a time.

Same for me. 😕

I always wanted to be the guy who could pick up anything and play good. Sadly it’s just not that way.

I went to the pool room yesterday-first time in almost a year. Played for a hour with a house cue. I’m so out of stroke I couldn’t tell it was a house cue…….

Anyways,,,,,,,

Take care

I turned out to be the guy who could pick up anything, and play just below average. My Highschool Guidance Counselor always said I was a classic underachiever.

I doubt that you have more than "a bit" of trouble switching between cues.

Eric, 'Bugs' was the Only player I've ever seen that could grab Any cue, (even a 'House cue' off the rack) and play lights out!

Show me yours and ill show you mine...My playing travel cue is a Murray Tucker plain jane. I have 2 other cues that I can pick up and not notice much difference (74 Joss and a Wes Hunter) and then there are the cues that don't get much play (Gina and Ed Prewitt)

It comes down to technique and knowledge Eric. I surprised this older gentleman when I was playing with an AZer in Virginia. I can't remember his handle, he used to date and live with Pink Lady. We went to his local pool hall and there was an older gentleman there who had an older Tasc. I was playing with a Mcdermott COTY with an I-2 LD shaft at the time and he let me shoot with his tasc and I was explaining BHE to them and I said give me 3 shots and I can play max side spin with any cue. So I did and was switching from playing with his HD Tasc to my LD Mcdermott no problem.

Koolkat9lives... Yeah, I remember now. I just looked him up and found the thread about pinklady's passing. I hadn't known... Now I'm sad. I stayed with them at Koolkat's place when I was in town. She always called me Brad Pitt, didn't know why.

Yes he was “that guy” twice over. He was so talented, just pure raw talent.

Mark Tadd is also on that list of guys who can just play!

I saw Bugs a couple times in real life. I was lucky, however I only have a couple memories nothing vivid. Of course I’ve watched all the videos many many times

Hope your well,

Best

Since I was a C player I realized that I can’t make some cues work. I’m super sensitive to equipment. Which is weak, I get it. But I can’t help it. 😕

I have that skill set in other walks of life. Not pool.

This topic of being a natural or having talent is something that’s always been of great interest to me.

How one person can do something with ease while another struggles is a spectrum. Where people land on that spectrum isn’t always due to hard work and dedication.

That makes the world an interesting and diverse place and pisses me off that I can’t do some things better than I’d like to.

I’m not a religious person in the formal sense, but I do believe this:

“You can’t train in what God left out”

So many great cues I‘ve had and sold simply because I don’t want to switch between the 2 . I know the second I have a bad day I’ll want to switch back lol I have a bunch of predators not because of the revo and they all play the same .

Agreed. I've seen some folks who were just naturally gifted...Most of the true greats, had/have the lethal combination of talent, and unparalleled work ethic.

SVB works harder than anyone who plays his speed that I ever saw.
