I'm a small dollar guy - $50 / $100 sets, but heres a story to pass the time for us office workers.

For the past 3 weekends I had the dog boarded and set out to 3 different tournaments. Charlies lounge (Soddy daisy 3 1/2 hrs away) - Memphis Super Bowl Tourn (8 1/2 hrs) Shannon's Knoxville event at Breakers (Only 1 1/2 hrs).

All Three great events - same result all three events (won 1 match)

----------------Charlies
Did not gamble at charlies - 1st time ever!!!!!! (low funds)

----------------Memphis
Got pumped up and started on the side during the Pickle (getting the 8) - Nevel/Lil John action in memphis. Had Pickle and lost the first set. Pulled up like a moron (he beat everyone the rest of the night). So I'm 100 hooked.

-100

Played "Nameless player" getting the 7 races to 7 for $50. won a few sets and end up $150.

+50

Lost $40 to Nameless Player and Nameless Player's running partner in $5 a game big table play.

+10

Great weekend for me considering.

-----------------Knoxville

1 and done in the friday mini event so nothing else to do other then jump on someone. My sights set on "Local Player" I mean I'm really supposed to win. When I lived in Knoxville he gave me the 8 then last 2 - He didn't like it and I felt good about giving up the last 2.

I win the first set 9-0 - we adjust to the 8 and I win 9-6.

+200

By then I'm finished drinking and begin to get hung over. I lose 4-9, I lose 7-9, we adjust back to the last 2............................I lose 6-9...........Me--"Lets double the bet"....................Him as he sees me holding my forehead "OK!!!"........I lose 7-9. I quit

-300 ($500 swing)

Me -- 7 ahead for 500 tomorrow , Last 2 (Big for me)........Him -- "OK"

Before the action - I was able to get a quality win in the tournament 1st round - Mark Owens..........I played great for me and he was off his game.

I fall asleep Sat night trying to wait for Local Player. He said 3am. Sunday rolls around and I feel great. Fully rested and we start a 5 on the 9 ring game - I'm up 80.

-220

"Hide your speed in the ring game" (No champion but better then he let on) was in our game and asks to play anyone in the game even. I stepped up ---------he proceeded to spank my a$$ the first set. I told him he was the better player but I'll fire another at him. We went hill - hill and ran it back for $200..............I lose 4-9

-520 (losing the post needed for the aforementioned $500 set)

Local Player arrives and I tell him I'll bet everything I had....... $270. He agreed and requested a race to 11. He's ahead the entire set I catch up and make it 9-9. next game goes to me and I'm ahead for the 1st time and on the hill. He leaves me with a 5 ball out which I blow..............Hill-Hill. He breaks and scratches.......................................................................Now before I get to the end I want to tell you - My heart is racing and I'm either going to be $790 hooked or $250 hooked for the weekend.

9 ball is on the rail near the side but can't go - the 1 is far enough away from the rail to get the Q ball behind-------------There is no way I can run even 3 balls at this point---------------I line up a 1-9 bank..............pull the trigger and miss.........................................................................................................................................................................The way my luck had been I figured I was done but low and behold I had hit the 1-9 so hard that It caroms off another ball and craps in the side pocket.

I hope I haven't bored everyone to death

great story, I love hearing/reading that kind of stuff

Not boring at all. Very nice story, thanks for sharing it.

i know you

sounds like i have played you before, atleast the last combo, bank carom. seems to me that players that bet lower end up falling into bigger scores than alot of champions, who are not usually playing with there own money anyway. good story.

"I hope I haven't bored everyone to death".......staying in action is never boring my friend:) You can't win if you don't play...

Great story, like they said if your in action it's not boring. up here in my neck of the woods most guys who play good wouldn't bet 25 cents that grass is green

That's a good story, but I gotta admit the ending through me for a loop?

Your playing 100 dollar sets and 500 dollar ahead sets, yet you figured it was in your best interest (at anytime, let alone sitting on the hill) to setup a 1 - 9 combo bank shot, and blast it?

Can I play next?

It seemed like the best option at the time - There was a partial safe if I had hit it correctly as well.

To your point - No, I am not good enough to be playing $500 sets. Kind of the moral to the story - hence the title Tales from a "Road / Fish"

Don't take it the wrong way I was trying to poke fun or the like. Just kinda surprised me that you were playing for that kind of money and that seemed like a viable option.

Action stories are always fun! win or lose you sound like you are having fun.

It's funny how relatively small bets can escalate. I remember playing a guy 9ball in Florida for 10 a rack with 100 in my pocket...He's up 40 and I got tired of 9ball after 3 hours so I said lets play a rack of 1 pocket for the 40 figuring I should get even or pay off and get the table time...I win, we play 2 more I win both, then he doubled the bet and I thought...here comes the "A" game! we flip I win the toss and lucked a ball in on the break and ran out. He pulled up wanting to set up a game later that night. I paid the time and left with 120. That was a strange day because I just went in to hit balls for an hour!

have fun, Gerry

Eagleshot, that was a good story. I hope in the future you can visit one of my events and come out a winner.

I can see the writing on the wall now.

In a future post Eagleshot writes: I played in a Viking Tour event but only won 1 match. I got bored and matched up with the TD (That's Me / Mike Janis) after the event and won 40 gazillion dollars off him....Whoever told that Mj guy he could play a little sure did me a favor. Now I'm going back to my daily job and telling the boss I'm taking a vacation to play pool on the road..

Good luck on the road and please keep the stories coming.

Mj

Your weekend at the tournament was much more exciting than mine was. ;) I'm glad to see you made a good save.

I actually ended up about 700 to the good after winning some games and some auction money even though I did go off a couple hundred to Shane before I left Sat. night though. I tried to lose some to you too but you were too busy.

See ya later.
