TAP league Auto Flag question

Hi all,
Is anyone familiar with the Auto Flags and how this is supposed to work in the TAP league (tournament play). I know that if a player gets 2 during a tournament, he's DQ'd and if a team gets 3 as a team, they are supposed to be DQ'd. I was always under the impression that if a team got 2 flags in a single match, they were also supposed to be disqualified. Am I wrong on this?

Also, can anyone enlighten me/us as to how the "secretive" TAP handicaps are determined? Doesn't have to be exact, but a rough guide will work..

Thanks in advance,
Rain-Man

TAP handicaps are, like the Queen of England's bra size, Obama's college transcripts, and John McCain's historical campaign funding, a gigantic mystery.

Basically, their formula has never been released. Like most leagues, if your LO is a good LO things will be fair. If your LO is a sh1tbag cashing checks and punching a clock, you are screwed. Ymmv.

agreed

Yes, I agree with you, but I KNOW there are people out there who know how it works. I watched them at this years dream team event at Edison, pulling their calculators out when their player was playing "too good". And I'm not just talking about regular players, I'm talking about league operators that were playing on a team. I watched them ALL day, pull their calculators out after their player was running racks as a 4 or a 5, and pull that player aside and whisper to them. Next thing you know, that player starts "missing" some easy balls. It was BLATENT. Whenever the opposing team protested, they were told, "you should have called a ref over to watch, nothing we can do now". But this was absolute BS because after they got a few misses in, that's all they needed and it was too late by then..This is just one example, and I have many many more, from there, nationals, and our state tournament.. Our whole league is considering dropping out entirely, but I would like to have as much info and evidence as I can before I come out with a few things. I've asked several questions to higher up's at TAP, and haven't even received a reply.. There is A LOT of favoritism going on at the National level with TAP, a lot....

Lo

Also, I would just like to say, that we have a good, and fair league operator. He has an unenviable job, and since we have been in his league, has done a really good job in curbing the sandbagging that was beginning to plague our local league. While I fully understand that you will NEVER eliminate sandbagging totally from a handicapped league, I can only think of a handful of severely under handicapped players left. And with the changes he has gradually implemented, they are really only hurting their own teams. I wish TAP would do some of these things as an organization, but sadly, I Dont see that ever happening...

And NO, we have no interest in joining APA (from bad to worse....).

just say F*** TAP there system sucks, There is a lot of favoritism as you stated and they just don't know how to run shit. and as far as people getting DQ that should never happen right away they should be moved up a skill level first like APA no one wants to get DQ because of some BS auto flag system that is seriously flawed. and be out all that money that you put into to get out there and a lot of people spent a bunch of money to get there and play just to get DQ'd

Well there you go, the LO's would have the formula. Every time I asked about it (because transparency is a GOOD thing) I was told it was proprietary info that could not be released blahblahblah.

Don't plan on receiving any reply from the national organization. I've emailed multiple people there multiple times about questions on rules, etcetc. Never received one reply.

You are lucky your local LO is a good guy....some are not. See if he would consider keeping things local by doing cash payouts instead of bothering with regionals or nationals. I say this because while your local LO might be a good guy and keep sandbagging to a minimum, you can be 100% absolutely assured that not all of them are like this. And whenever you leave your area and go to regional/national events you are guaranteed to run into them. Avoid the frustration and bs, IMO.

Good luck in the future, -spider
