TAP Leagues

Anyone play in TAP? Can you tell me how you like it and how does it compare to APA? With the APA league opperator we have many that are thinking of changing to TAP. Any words of wisdom will help.

enjoy it

I enjoy TAP league. One reason is we have a league operator that works for the players, not vice versa. TAP scoring is a lot different, you have to have someone who is paying attention. No Slop. Open after the break. I like it.

What do you want to know? You really need to be more specific.

Every area and region APA and TAP is played may differ dramatically.

But in my area, typically, TAP players tend to be, overall, much better skilled than APAers. My local TAP leage would be intimidating to new players, where APA is a soft welcome to new unskilled shooters who you can match up with. Players going from APA to TAP drop a skill level to begin, and sometimes even more. I'm a SL5 in APA, SL3 in TAP. In addition to players dropping, teams can have up to 25 team points a night, as opposed to 23 in TAP. Pretty rare when you can't field a team, because the numbers are too high. Choice of category off break with any ball or combination down. All shots are called. Not much else I can think of.

I agree with the above. Our local TAP manager was very cool, hard working and played in the league when not running around on league nights dropping off envelopes or picking them up. I can't speak for the rules, but have heard the TAP players are a tad better in skill and that seemed very true in our TAP sessions. But all these "better" players also knew how to sandbag, cheat the system, whatever you call it to always find a way to the playoff's each session. And yes, if your rank is too high, you may find it hard to get a spot of a team, period. One session, I had to lose 6 weeks in a row so I could remain a 4 to remain on the team. That didn't help my pool game but had plenty of teammates buying me drinks for the cause. ;)
Next session, I was raised to a 5 and dropped off the team. I was hardly shooting 50% of my ability to be a 5 so when I was released, I realized this league was not for me.

Good luck, it can be fun.

I couldn't help but notice that apa players all think very highly of themselves no matter how low their rating is. "I'm a 3 but I'm a STRONG 3"

Also they have excuses for every missed shot and every lost match. These are very young new players that are comparing themselves to hooligans they've beaten in the bar who play once a month.

Tap players have a better sense of reality. The competition will be much much tougher and even tougher still in the bca

However the apa teams go nuts when they win! Huge cheers when a player wins his match especially. I've seen teams behave like they just won the world series and I love that.

It's hard to get a reaction from a tap crowd. But you will find the best competition and better rules. I say go for it.

It is funny how you say this. I bet you 80% of the people who play TAP came from the APA to begin with. A lot of people play in both and some in all 3.

Again, that my be a league in YOUR area.

In my area, nobody who shoots APA has a false sense of ability, except for me!
