Taper Shaper question

I'm looking at the photos on Unique Products website and having a hard time visualizing how it creates variable shaft tapers.

Does it run back and forth on a taper bar of some sort?

It follows a taper groove . Only one taper for shaft . You'd have to offset the tip end to get a different taper and manually dial it to make sure the joint end doesn't become too skinny. Or you can have a taper bar with different taper grooves CNC milled.

The web site has the following claim for capability of this machine

"- Re-Shape Existing Shafts to New Profiles"

This is what I'm having trouble grasping. Profiles is plural making it sound like you can easily make a choice.

Frankly compared to my wall mounted CNC taper machine this thing is a toy.

Well, heavy actuator cnc machine like yours are tanks compared to the TS.
My EP manual taper machine is a tank too but you can't get them anymore.
If I had room, I'd have a saw taperer too for hogging out purposes.

I'm thinking of moving my saw machine to a sturdier saw the next time I see a beat up old unisaw for cheap.

If its name is the taper shaper, I'd have assumed that the machine was turn key from the source but able to be changed.
You're gonna need a lot of practice dowels and you will need to make your own stoppers .

Its a really great machine built extremely well.
Simple but the weak part is the router.
Fortunately that can be upgraded to a quieter smoother running one.
If you ever seen one in action you would quickly understand how it works.
