TAR 22 Post-Match with Earl & Joe Rogan

Great clip, thanks. You can say what you want about earl, but to me hes the most entertaining guy in pool.

Earl mentions how he was virtually on his own when he was 5. Joe kind of calls him out on that asking how can he remember when he was 5?

I remember the house I lived in when I was 3 and vividly remember 1000s of scenes from ages 4 and 5.

I do too. Usually it was related to what was going on at school for me. If it was happening in the third grade, I know I was nine. That helps me remember back on many other things around that time. But I remember some things from kindergarten also............

EARL FOR PRESIDENT! I don't care what anyone says about Earl, I'd rather listen to him and watch him than ANY other pool player.

Reminds me of the old Billy Joel song, "You May Be Right".

"You may be right
I may be crazy
But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for"

Some people call him crazy, some may call him a lunatic...but HE is the ONLY "lunatic" that draws in the crowds and excites the crowds. Whether you like him or not is another story.

Pool as a spectator sport in the U.S. will NEVER get off the ground if you are going to have all the players dress up in fancy clothes and sit around all quiet and proper like a bunch of old women at an English tea party. Pool needs "excitement"...you got to add a bit of Jerry Springer, or WWF, to it to get people to watch it.

I have played pool my whole life and it is still my favorite participant sport because I have dedicated most of my life to learning and playing it. However, I will be the first to say that the "average" American thinks pool to watch is "BORING" and they don't have a clue one about the game...other than knocking some balls around maybe on a bar table somewhere.

Well said I absolutely agree.

Guess I'll dissent.

Where's the fascination in a man that has blanket disrespect for those who play his sport and similarly rejects those in other sports as well as their sports? This man is mentally ill, and rather than laughing at him, I'll just wish him better times. It's sad for both him and pool when his pathetic act away from the table draws laughs.

On the table, he's one of the all time greats. Off the table, it's another story.
If reality TV's next stop is to institutionalize and capitalize on the mockery of the mentally ill, then these are sad times we live in.

Good luck, Earl, in pool and in life.

Earl is a Fired Up Unit. I don't understand why people get so worked up about him and his shenanigans. I've had a close friend since I was young with similar tendencies to Earl, 90% of what my friend is saying goes out one ear and out the other. I've learned over the years not to take it too seriously and not to get upset by it. The downside is I can only take so much of this friend, small doses, smaller and smaller as the years roll by.

I've never met Earl Strickland personally but it appears to me that Earl is one of those guys that talks at you and not to you. Guys like that it's impossible to have a conversation with because all their doing when there not talking is thinking about what they're going to say next. They rarely listen or even hear what's being said to them.

That being said how the eff is a guy who has won the US Open 5 times not a celebrity and cannot get into the Celebrity Golf Tournament? Any other sports player who had one some prestigious title once or twice would probably have been given a pass and let in.

Granted I'm bias (I like Earl) but that's absolutely a legitimate gripe about being declined from the celebrity Golf Tournament. Pool gets no respect!

The irony in the reality that pool gets no respect is that it's probably the hardest game in the world to master. You need the focus and discipline of a Buddhist monk to play this game at it's highest level.

My favorites from Earl's lecture:

"This is real funny bunch of people on this planet. Wish I could find another planet."

"I'll shoot your liver out and hand it to you."

"I've got more talent in my little finger than every sport in this whole world's got."

"Money can't buy what I've got -- character and talent."

"I don't like too many people in pool. He's the only guy I like, I think. I don't know why, I just like him." [speaking of Shane]

"My ass looks better than Kim Kardashian's."

"The women on TV are phonier than a three-dollar bill."

"You guys don't know who I am, really. I ain't here for your reasons, I'm here for pool, period. I'm like some kind of messenger, or something. And I'm going to die broke. It doesn't matter what I am. Long as I've got the ability to keep running my mouth and shooting balls in, I'll make a difference."

[on soccer] "If you put toothpicks on my eyes to hold them up and held a gun to my head, my hands tied, I'd beg you to shoot me if I had to watch it. ... That's how boring it is."

[on ESPN and pool] "ESPN comes in and films it, and you know what it looks like? The Blair Witch Project."

"I went on the road at age 12". "How strong is that!".

"THESE TABLES WERE BROUGHT OVER ON THE MAYFLOWER !!!!!"

:killingme::rotflmao1:

earl can irritate me just like he does everyone else at one time or another but that is some classic stuff right there

It was funny for the last decade or so, but now it is becoming both sad and tragic. Earl is indeed a sick man. Can't feel good about being entertained or having fun at the expense of a sick man. Not anymore.

To see, what is one of the greatest players to ever play the game, go down this road in the sunset of his career is nothing to laugh about. It's shameful to make a mockery of it.

Didn't feel this way before. Always felt that he was in control of it, brought it on himself...that he was responsible for what he said, did and all of that. I don't feel that way anymore. I don't think he can control it. He was able to at one time, and fueled the fire himself, played the game so to speak. But now, I think it's beyond his control. I can't blame a person anymore for something they can't help. Can't blame them for being afflicted with some kind of illness.

The pool world is cruel, probably more cruel than the world on its own which is pretty bad. But maybe its time people started talking to Earl in a different way? Instead of treating him as a freak or a show. Setting him up, knowing he will do this, and use it as material to laugh or ridicule. This praise he's getting for being funny isn't praise from respect. It's the kind of praise one gives a clown.

I talked to Earl once in my life. He did start getting crazy after a few minutes. But it went pretty well. Because I didn't provoke it. I didn't feed him. Instigate or set him up. I talked to him with RESPECT. I was sincere, and didn't talk to him with an agenda to be entertained.

Do unto others, as you would like them to do to you.

This is no way to treat another person, no matter who it is. Let alone a great champion of a game we love so much, who has enriched the sport with his greatness for so many years.

One of the smartest men on the planet (Rogan) having a "discussion" with one of the dumbest (Earl) and trying to make sense of it all. CLASSIC!

Is it really proper for a commentator to make such a rude comment about a player in his sport that has accomplished so much?

Earl blatantly and unjustly disrespected the most powerful sports network, ESPN, in that clip. Earl also is the person to quit in the finals on the Camel Pro Tour, known as "the straw that broke the camels back" to many. These types of comments and actions can be extremely damaging to pool.

As said by another, Jay is not commentating, this is a public forum. I support Jays comment. Let the truth be known.

Earl is a fool.

I like a lot of your post and reasoning, but we cant always agree.
ESPN has not done sh1t for pool. Play reruns of trick shot magic.
I also dont know what makes you think that because you say it,that makes
it so. Like the golf comment. I know people who play much better golf than pool. I guess that would be up to the individual in that sense.
I respect both you and Jay,but not the out lashes that are no better
than the comments Earl made. He doesnt need help to make himself look bad.

ESPN is not in the business to make pool look good. They are in the business to broadcast and report on sports in a way that sells advertising.

ESPN has been allowed to promote pool in anyway they saw fit, because the lack of organization, power, direction and leadership within the pool community. It is pools fault for not controlling their own product.

The comments made by Earl are damaging to everyone in the pool community if and when they reach ESPN. It is never good to burn bridges. I don't know what Earls beef is with the world and I really do not care. I'm concerned with the best interest of organized pool.

Ask yourself, is it ESPN's job to make the Poll look good? Should they be in the business of sport building? Do they even have the right or any interest in sport build? No. It is pools job to present them with something better than "Trick Shot Magic".

Finger pointing and whining saying they didn't do this or that for me is a lousy excuse. Earl is wallowing in self-pity. It doesn't do anything good for pool or even himself. So, a fool is what I call this man.

I will agree that for some, pool is more difficult and for others pool. Playing anything at the highest level is difficult.

If you read between the lines, Earls comments aren't really about which is harder. It is an attempt to make himself look better. Earl is insecure about many things in his life and over compensates by making outrageous claims and comments.

He does make some outrageous comments

if its not an act hes putting on because he has a camera or group of people in his face, he deserves to be on the real life ignore list! Does anyone know earl away from pool, how does he act on a normal daily basis?
